May 5, 2007 - Picton - Start of the South Island

The views fromn the ferry as you approach the South Island are really nice. You pass right through the Marlborough Sounds until you reach Picton, the ferry port where we all drive off and enter the South Island. Once off the ferry we decided to spend a day or 2 in the Marlborough Sounds region, so we headed off along the Queen Charlotte drive. Sep 18, 2005 - South Island

Kia Ora (to finally explain, 'tis a maori greeting for hello). Well, I have finally made it to the South Island and the ferry crossing was incredibly impressive. The weather is incredibly bad, so as I looked out through the prow windows of the ferry it was quite something to see the valley sides appear as if the veil of rain had suddenly been lifted. Wellington was fun yesterday, we went on the cable car, and there are some absolutely stunning views from the summit looking back down over the city and the harbour. The weather here in Picton...
