I woke up at Kaurivale refreshed and not at all jet lagged for my first full day in New Zealand, not bad considering my bodyclock had shifted by 11 hours. I think this can be put down to my experiences of working at odd hours - the flight over felt just like doing a couple of long night shifts. Waipoua Forest 091005 Her sidder vi så inde midt i regnskoven - Egill er faldet i sövn og vi sidder og spiser chokolade og læser knaldromaner efter en lang dag på snirklede biveje. Vi kunne have valgt at köre ad hovedvejen i stedet for de mindre veje, men vores erfaring er at hovedvejen er ligeså snirklet som de mindre veje, så der er ikke meget forskel på rejsetiden, bare på trafikmængden. Det er somom her er en eller anden regel der forbyder vejvæsenet at lave mere end 50 m lige vej ad gangen, utroligt! Og alligevel er det tilladt at köre...

Mar 4, 2005 - Hokianga Harbour to Paihia

We got up early today and checked out of the hostel, then drove to Kaikohe for breakfast. We found a great little place with really nice owners, great food and coffee! Afterwards we drove to Rainbow Falls in Kerikeri. We had to hike about an hour each way to get to the falls, but it was really nice and sort of the idyllic "tropical" waterfall scenario. After that we went into Kerikeri (the town, that is!) for groceries, then drove on to Paihia. We checked into the "Pickled Parrot" hostel (they actually have a really cute little green parrot...
