Woke up stiff and sore from the cold night, a man walking his dog went by us and told us we picked the coldest spot in the park to camp.....he appeared to be laughing at us. We packed up in a hurry to find a picnic table somewhere in the sun to warm ourselves and make some breakfast. Mar 23, 2010 - Otaki

We take the early morning ferry from the south Island up to the north Island which takes about 3 hours, and pick up a new and bigger rental car. The sun is out and its warm so we decide that the best bet is really just to head to the beach. There are numerous beach possibilities north of Wellington and we try a couple. At the first there is a row of cars parked right on the sand with people looking out over the water, and here we eat lunch (not in the car). Dec 30, 2009 - Christmas in Otaki Beach

We weren't sure what to expect at our beachside bach in Otaki, as we booked it such a long time ago, but we weren't disappointed. We were told by the owner that it was a slice of Paradise, which we took to be marketing lingo, but is was actually very accurate. The Bach was absolute luxury, and definately the best accomodation so far. Sadly we were most excited about the washing machine after 2 months of hand washing and managed to wash everything we owned at least once.
