Drove from Marahau to the Buller Gorge, just over half way to Westport on the west coast, and just past Murchison. Here is New Zealand's longest rope bridge and also the site of the epicentre of the 1929 Murchison earthquake which measured 7.8 on the Richter Scale and caused the earth to lift up by an impressive 4.5m. It was pissing it down with rain all the way there in the car, but eased up before I got there, only to start again as I was half way over the bridge. Apr 9, 2006 - The Bulla Riva

Today we woke up in Nelson on the north end of the south island and drove to Westport on the west coast. Along the way we stopped off in Murchison for our adventure of the day. Most of the drive it was spitting a bit. That's rain in kiwi speak. This rain was but a sprinkle compared to downpour that occurred during the night. A violent and long lasting rain woke all of us except Niko. Sleeping in a camper, one really gets a feel for how hard it is raining and all of us save Niko were very impressed by the tenacity of the downpour. Speaking...
