The alternate title was going to be "Cooling off in Burnt Penis" but I thought better of it. We took a day trip to Te Urewera National Park just an hours drive from the coast. Te Urewera gains its name from a tradition that a Nga Potiki chief, old and feeble, lay down beside a fire and was fatally burnt in the genitals. A literal translation of Urewera is 'burnt penis'. I'm not sure if this legend has anything to do with their current ban on campfires, but you can't be too careful.

Reilly on the Road

Sep 18, 2005 - retour vers le Nord... Snif, ca sent la fin !

Apres avoir quitte les dauphins, nous reprenons directement la route pour filer vers le ferry et revenir sur l'ile du Nord pour les derniers jours de notre voyage ici. Notre objectif : le Lake Waikaremoana, ou nous voulons faire une derniere Great Walk... Snif, je vous passe les details, mais alors que nous avions fait la route sous le soleil, une tempete nous eclate dessus pendant la nuit. Le matin, trombes d'eau, et ils annoncenet meme de la neige... Impossible de marcher dans ces conditions (ou plutot, c'est possible mnais ca a peu...
