Feb 24, 2007 - The Coramandel

Today we left Auckland - hurrah! on the way to the Coramandel. Auckland is apparently the largest city in the world with an area of 1000km2. Auckland is interesting, as is the rest of New Zealand in that it suffers from earth quakes, due to the plate-technonics going on in the region. There were 3 in Auckland last week!! The Corramandel is the No.1 tourist resort in NZ for Kiwi's. The drive to Cormandel was beautiful - it took no time at all to drive out of the city and be in complete countryside. We drove past lakes and forests as we...

Dec 16, 2005 - Around the North Island

We have now purchased our own little campervan and we are having a blast cruising around the North Island of New Zealand. We don't have a real plan, we are just following our hearts- and trying to find the warm, sunny areas! We then continued arund the top of the coromandel through Whitianga and to Coromandel Town where the...

Nov 12, 2004 - Coromandel Peninsula

We left Whangarei and pushed on down the coast to get ourselves to the Coromandel peninsula, having been told we must go there by a nice guy called Ben in the Cook Islands. On route we stopped at Goat Island which is NZ's first marine reserve and pretty in a rugged sort of way. The drive also took us back through Auckland , but been there and done that so didn't stop, only notable for the it being the only traffic jam in all NZ! Got to Coromandel in the evening after yes, yet more bendy roads and pretty coastal scenery. Next day we headed...
