Once again we were up early and had checked out of the motel by 9 o’clock as we had a long drive ahead of us back to Whakatane, around the coastline on the Pacific Highway, a 6 hour drive over about 340km, up and down and around and around, just like many of the highways here. We passed many good surf beaches north of Gisborne and had a mix of ocean views mixed with the hilly sheep/cattle country. Once again towns are small and often consist of just a collection of houses, usually with a school. The highway is generally pretty smooth but...

Mar 14, 2006 - Te Araroa - Koeligt strandliv

Paa vejen til og fra Araroa moedte vi ikke mange biler og der var ogsaa langt mellem husene. Vi er her i et relativt tyndt befolket omraade med en stor koncentration af Maori'er. Men udsigten op og ned langs bjergne og kysten er ganske smuk. Vi havde kun en enkelt overnatning i et ikke alt for fremragende vejr. Vi vaagnede dog heldigvis op til en dag badet i solskin og varme - vejret skifter VIRKELIG ofte. Det er ikke helt loegn, naar de siger at man paa NZ kan opleve 4 aarstider paa een dag.
