May 2, 2012 - Helensville

Hi all, It was time to check in to a campsite, so with a glance at the map from me, and a groan of uncertainty from Petrina (well founded I might add) we plotted course for Helensville. Fortunately we got lucky and found a really cheap campsite with free hot showers and an adjacent swimming complex with heated pools and flumes. Perfect for two big kids like us. Oh and we were also opposite an off licence, a fish and chip shop and next to a pub. Helensville, not bad for a a stab in the dark. Much love C & P xx

Feb 8, 2007 - "Ruby...Don't take your love to town" - Kenny Rogers

Dave, Sumit and I headed out of Auckland to the beautiful Northland. After about 3 hours of driving we pulled into Bayly's Beach Caravan Park on the coast. After setting up camp, we took the Decisive down the beach to watch the sunset over the waves...just beautiful! While down there, we were joined by Julia and Ruby Twist whom we had seen at another backpackers. What can I say, we all fell in love with Ruby. As Sumit worked with her mom to get their kite airborne, Ruby just captivated Dave and I. What a little heartbreaker!

Jan 16, 2006 - The Mystery Machine and heading north

So we finally did it- we bought a car!! It's a 1996 Ford Telstra (station wagon) and it is known as the "Mystery Machine". Of course this comes with a story.....After visiting the car market for three days we came back on Monday and within 10 minutes this white beauty rolled in. Her driver was a British designer for Jaguar and he had two kids with him. These two youngsters had recently developed an interest in Scooby Doo and decided that they were Fred and Daphne and their car was the "Mystery Machine". So as you can see, we just couldn't...

Jan 3, 2006 - Auckland (again)

We arrived back in Aukland yesterday, we are only here for two nights, we fly to Fiji tomorrow. We have met Vicky here, we were supposed to meet her in Fiji but she left early, but we crossed paths here too so it's all good. We've not been up to much here, our flight is early tomorrow morning, so we will be in Fiji by midday.

Apr 9, 2005 - canyoning

I had been longingly contemplating going canyoning since I had arrived in New Zealand... Now, with one day left in the country, what better way to say goodbye? About 30 minutes outside of Auckland, we drove up a mountain, hiked another mile or two, and geared up with our wetsuits, harnesses, and helmets... and jumped into the freezing cold water. We would follow this river through the canyon for several hours, jumping from pool to pool, sliding down the smaller waterfalls, and abseiling (rappelling) down the larger waterfalls. Nothing...

Jan 10, 2005 - Back to Auckland

Monday 10.1.05 We arose early, quickly packed and drove to the airport. It's very leisurely here at the airport, relaxed and laid back. It is not loud noisy and frenetic like the English airports but quiet efficient and everything proceeds with a minimum of fuss. After an hour and twenty minute flight to Auckland, we were met by our car hire company, called "Rent a Dent" who hire out second hand cars at very reasonable prices and whose service is fantastic. We were met by bright and warm sunshine which made a pleasant change from the wind...

Dec 3, 2004 - You should have been here last week.

We arrive in Auckland and get a shuttle bus to the B&B. This takes quite a while, on account of me not having the correct address. After a trip of around 90 minutes we get there and are met by the slightly crazed owners. We're staying in a place called Devonport, a 10 minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland. The B&B has 4 rooms but only we're in at the moment, meaning we get the undivided attention of the crazy twosome. They're both very posh, him ex army and her...well loopy frankly. She refers to guests as inmates and we're invited into...

Nov 19, 2004 - Sydney to Aukland

Phewee! Just spent a week running around Sydney - on ferries, on trams, up blue mountains, getting lost on a trek, oh what the heck, speaking hebrew, swatting flies, bumming on bondii. Found that I had a second cousin living here (thanks Nic for putting me in touch with Marc!) so that was really great catching up with him and going to nice bars and restaurants with him. Was really lucky with the weather, missed storms when I arrived and left before they started again for the weekend. Sick of my travel togs, so made a few worthwhile...

Oct 26, 2004 - Adult life (boo hiss)

Kia Ora folks! Well, here's to the beginning of my adulthood in NZ! BOO HISS! I've seriously come back down to earth with a bang, but I'm also in serious denial too!! Anyway, i've already started the hunt for jobs/cars/accommodation, and I'm off to speak to a couple of companies that help with that sort of stuff, today. I've got 4 days here, but it may be longer depending on how long it takes to sort things out. Anyway, hopefully next time I write I'll be sorted, but then again, I'm hoping for a massive lottery win that'll let me carry on...

Oct 19, 2004 - Return to sender!

Kia Ora! Well, Lauren drove Me, Kerry (girl that I met in Mt Maunganui) and Tina, to the otherside of the Coromandel. There was some gorgeous scenery that is just too hard to describe. We were being big kids today though. We got to play at Waiu water works, which is a park where they have made water displays out of old things (basically they've recycled loads of rubbish!!) We were on these bikes that went up and down and made it look like you were saving E.T!! It was sweet!! They also had giant hamster wheels and flying foxes there too. It...
