Aug 22, 2006 - Leaving Dunedin, Leaving New Zealand!
Almost a month has passed since my last journal entry. This isn't to say there's nothing to talk about. New Zealand has offered me so much over the past four months in terms of activities, hospitality and employment! My last report was from the ski fields of Wanaka way back in July, since that entry I have made two trips up to Wanaka to Ski. I've included some pictures of Treble Cone ski field and its view of Wanaka. Apr 4, 2006 - Wanaka - and falling 15 000ft above it!
I left franz josef the day after my climb and decided to skip Fox glacier (as the rain was still pelting down) and head straight for my next planned destination - Wanaka. It's a gorgeous little lakeside town with enough to keep my chilled and happy for the next few days. My hostel is just lovely, it overlooks the lake and is like being in someones home. As the rain had still not ceased I just stayed in last night and had a home cooked dinner with a sweet german couple I'd met on my 2 previous bus trips. Jan 9, 2006 - Wanaka and the Mt.Roy Climb!
Driving on the Hasst pass gave us stunning views of the Southern Alps and picture perfect blue lakes. Stopped at a one-horse town for a sarnie only to find a German complaining about finding glass in his soup!! We double-checked the sandwich before scoffing it down!! Got to Wanaka around 2pm and it was roasting - too hot to put the tent up, too much like hard work!
