Apr 20, 2015 - Keukenhof

Monday, 20th. Can you believe it the bike stores are closed on Monday!!! Went shopping at the mall and purchased food as well as toaster, oven, coffee maker, hair dryer, & coffee cups. Bill was running the stuff back and forth to the RV and on his last trip said he would meet me at the square for a late lunch. I turned left when I should have turned right and was promptly lost. After about 20 minutes I found myself and met Bill trying to find me. Least of all I scared the s… out of both of us. For some reason we decided to take the “Long...

Apr 18, 2013 - Anne Frank House

The main reason for our visit to Amsterdam was to visit the Anne Frank House Museum. I nearly went there a couple of years ago on one my cycle trips with PD & Roger but the queues had stretched all around the building & we didn't want to spend hours in line. This time I booked tickets on-line which meant you could jump the queues and go straight in. The only tickets I could get we're for 9am today so we had to make an early start to get to central Amsterdam in time. By this time we were quite adept at using the roads and the bike paths to...

Apr 24, 2010 - BloemenCorso-Bollenstreek

Saturday 24th April 2010 Weather:-Heat wave-18 degrees Lisse--BloemenCorso 2010 Theme: Journey through Europe We were again lucky for we have had the most glorious sunny day to experience once more in our lives the 'BloemenCorso van de Bollenstreek' (Flower Parade of the Bulb Area) as you know by now it is a parade of flower-decorated floats that makes a slow 40km (25 miles) passage from Noordwijk to Haarlem, where the cavalcade forms an illuminated display overnight. A different theme is adopted each year for this popular festival, which...

Apr 23, 2010 - Keukenhof

Friday 23rd April 2010 Weather:-Fresh/ Sunshine-18 degrees Keukenhof-Lisse In case you do not like flowers you had better tune out now for we spent 10 hours walking and sitting in the Keukenhof today. 'Keukenhof' (literally means kitchen garden) we had a ten minute walk from our hotel, in Lisse, South Holland to the world's largest flower garden park with around 7 million tulips, daffodils, crocuses, and other flowering bulbs on display. Even as early as 8:45am we were swamped by school groups all on their bikes heading for The Keukenhof...

Apr 22, 2010 - Lisse

Thursday 22nd April 2010 Weather:-Cold /Sunshine-12 degrees Apeldoorn/Lisse 122k=1:20h We have come to realize that if we want to enjoy all the things on our agenda around the Lisse area of Nederland we had better get a hotel at closer quarters, the danger of getting stuck in a traffic jam while on our way to the BloemenCorso is not worth it and with the cost of petrol and a very thirsty little car it makes more sense so today we moved into the Hotel de Duif (Dove) in Lisse for the next two nights. This hotel is only a 10 minute walk away...

May 12, 2008 - The flowers of Holland...

After admiring Amsterdam's beauty, we headed out to a place called Keukenhof, an awe-inspiring, jaw-dropping, heart-stopping encounter for flower lovers... and since I am drawn to heavenly scents, how could I not be seduced by the smells of the best lilies in Holland...I had never seen such a congregation of petaly eloquence in such an organized manner...I was asked if I could see myself living in Europe...if I did by chance, I would choose Holland as one of my top 5...
