Oct 28, 2004 - Beer And Sunny Casablanca....

Finally the beer drought has come to an end!!Andrew and Jo came up with the goods yesterday arvo and a few crazy Moroccan brews were had. After the Gabon visa debacle they were much needed. The bloody Gabonners,or whatever they call themselves, decided that they wouldn't give us visas in Rabat and we'd have to get them now in Cameroon but the best part is that the mongrels kept all our visa money and refused to give it back which amounted to 25 quid each. After Chris the co driver almost caused an international incident by going off at the...

Oct 1, 2004 - Casablanca, Morocco

We flew into Casablanca from JFK and arrived at about 6:30am. It took about 10 min. to get (taken for) a taxi ride to a hotel I saw in the guide book. The Plaza Hotel was pretty cheap and right across from the medina (the midieval part of the city with a large wall around it). One day to get over jet lag and lack of sleep and we caught the train to Marrakesh.

That evening we took a train to the Casablanca airport. Our flight home was leaving at 7:00 am which meant another night at the airport. The bus took us to the neighborhood of the airport, but at 2am we needed a taxi to get to there. We were trying to make sure that the driver understood which airlines we needed, but he took us to the wrong terminal. He was pretty mad when we demanded that he took us over to the right one; they are charged separately for entering each terminal and going to another one made what he charged us over the fair price evaporate. After checking in we still had some time to nap before our 5AM flight to Casablanca. They had very nice seats, made with...

May 3, 2004 - More from Dubai, then on to... Casablanca!

Greetings all! Dubai We did get into Dubai, even though 3 of us had many Israeli passport stamps and Steve (the orthodox Jew) wore his yamakah and had his tallis sticking out of his shirt at the passport control desk. What became very apparent is that the only reason the United Arab Emirates country exists at all is because of oil. They discovered oil in the 60's and their reserves are now dwindling and therefore they are trying desperately to create a new economy. The new economy is TOURISM with a capital T. So they have to "talk...
