Apr 1, 2009 - Coba Ruins

So today we got up early and headed to the bus depot. The 8:00 bus was full, so we went for breakfast and caught the 9:00 bus to Coba. The trip took about 2 hours. After spending two weeks trying to acclimatize our bodies to the heat, we have avoided air conditioning. The air conditioned bus actually seemed chilly. I know those of you who were playing in snow today, don't have very much sympathy. Cory and Elaine had some difficulty with their bank card today and weren't able to withdraw cash from the ATM, but fortunately they had some US...

Mar 31, 2009 - Meeting new friends

Poco got a little too much sun today, so has asked me, Elaine, to do the entry. As some of you may know, Cory and I joined a couple of online groups a year and a half ago. The first one was Global Freeloaders and the other couchsurfing. Just add .com to the end of those names and you will find these sites. Basically what they are, is an online community of travelers, who will host people or be hosted when they are traveling. We hosted a number of people since joining, and found it to be a very rewarding experience. Some people think we have...

Mar 30, 2009 - A Day on the Beach

Well let me tell you., I think Cory and Elaine have finally reached the point that cousin Eddy spoke about in his latest message. (See guestbook) They vacation/adventure has finally kicked in. But, alas, I am getting ahead of myself. After leaving the Magic Express we moved to Podama la Padauna. It is a five minute walk to Walmart, and another 10 minute walk to the beach. The place is small, quaint and tidy, however we sadly regret not having a kitchen, but are most missing a fridge. The kind owner allowed us to put some beverages in her...

Mar 27, 2009 - Poco's first week of vacation

Well, it is hard to believe that the first week has already come and gone. I want to share with you some of the things that I have been up to. I have climbed coconut trees and found my very own coconut. I have also posed for some photos with some of the daily towel arrangements. It is a good job that Elaine has taken a photography course. Last night I had to stay in the room while they went to the Exotic Club Gala dinner. It is a special dinner the resort puts on for Exotic Club members. Together with Chris and Anne, Cory and Elaine joined...

Mar 24, 2009 - Just another day in paradise

Hard to believe that tonight is our 4th night already. It is amazing to watch Cory and Elaine as they begin to relax. Apparently just a little bit of clear blue skies, and warm sunshine has great therapeutic qualities. On Saturday, Cory got a wee bit too much sun and looks quite Canadian, (red and white), so he is being quite cautious in the sun right now. Cory and Elaine were very excited to introduce me to Estella and Lucy, two of their favorite servers from their previous visit to the Eldorado Seaside suites. I must say I feel quite...

Mar 21, 2009 - The journey has begun

Well, I must apologize for not updating the blog in the last little while but I have been very busy. My first task has been cracking the whip with Cory and Elaine to make sure that they got everything done, and the second has been trying to find the tap to shut off Elaine’s tears as she became extremely emotional as the trip got closer and so many people were sending good wishes, and the stress and pressure of getting ready to leave took a toll on her. I accompanied her to work on her last day, and it was amazing to witness as so many...

Mar 10, 2007 - Miami, Playa del Carmen and Cancun

Hola! I started in Miami, then flew to Playa del Carmen for a few nights at an all inclusive (which wasn't that good BESIDES the rain). Then I headed back to Cancun. I've dropped 12 pounds already, probably all from sweat! It is super humid down here! Lots of absolutely plastered college girls down here for spring break, and yes Kev and Rick, they are easy as hell! Then there are old Americans and Canucks, and only a few peeps my age. I'm meeting some great people and having a good time. Love you all! Andrew

Oct 15, 2006 - PLAYA DEL CARMEN 2 - Mexico

KARIN GOES FAR

Oct 4, 2006 - PLAYA DEL CARMEN - Mexico

Arrived at Playa del Carmen early Monday afternoon. Its so touristy and though I hate to admit it, it was great to wander around shops again for a while (although I'm not sure Donal was as pleased!). Beyond that there isnt a huge amount to do here, it's a typical tourist resort with restaurants, bars, souveneir shops (even heard one guy claiming he had "more junk for less money"!)and fabulous large hotels that we are too shabby to even enter the foyer of! The beach here is beautiful though a little crowded, very different from Tulum. Its an...

Apr 6, 2006 - Playa - The Beach

Our last stop before Cancun airport, Playa del Carmen. To say it isn't touristy and a little tacky would be lying, but the beach is stunning, the snorkeling pretty impressive and it has a vibrant feel about it. We put in some serious beach time (working on that tan for skiing next week!), and caught a boat out to the reef where we snorkeled over colourful coral and a myriad of brilliant fish. Tonight we finally got 6 weeks worth of news of our adventures to you, minus a few more photos than you would have had. Tomorrow morning we fly via...
