Feb 26, 2008 - Sailing the "Mexican Riviera" -- Banderas Bay to Barra de Navidad

Marinas are "seductive"! Marinas are hot showers, fresh water from a hose, easy access to walking to town for laundry and farmer's markets, provisioning at modern supermarkets, good restaurants and live musical entertainment, marine suppliers for stainless steel nuts and bolts, dentists etc., etc. LETTING GO of those dock lines is a real challenge! But within a half hour on the water, we wonder why we stayed at the marina so long. The danger for MAB in staying in marinas too long is that I forget my newly developing sailing skills. On...

Feb 8, 2008 - Glad to be in Manzanillo

Added pics to the last post in Zihuatenejo. Be sure to check there. Last Monday we left Zihuatenejo for fuel in Ixtapa, and an overnight stay at Isla Grande. Unfortunately the anchorage didn't look good and last visit here was not the best due to swinging around the anchor. So off we went at about noon headed for Manzanillo on an overnight run. I got sick after Sail Fest with a cold/flu...just wore myself out. So I wasn't looking forward to this run, but we had to get going north. After about 7 hours the seas and wind kept building. We had...

Jan 2, 2008 - Arrived in Manzanillo

Spent the last few days in a bay just outside Manzanillo. We were at Punta Carrizal. Lovely place which afforded us some time to swim, snorkel, kayak, fish and clean the bottom of our boat and check our zincs. Luckily Mike is quite good at bottom time while snorkeling. We spent about 4 days in this anchorage with 5 other boats. Snorkeling was awesome. Saw a manta ray 10x10 feet. The six of us gathered one evening at sunset for snacks and cocktails. On new years eve all 6 women went kayaking. I tried to shoot thru a tube of rushing water and...

Mar 16, 2007 - Boca Beach to San Patricio/Melaque

After our last entry, we received an email from Audrey about the Botete fish we had eaten for dinner. Turns out it may be poisonous, perhaps even fatal! They don't really know too much about it. Well we aren't dead yet though the other one in the freezer may be used as bait. Not good to take a chance. That will teach us to trust the locals! From Punta Perula we headed 50km south to Tenacatita Bay where we stayed at Boca Beach which we thoroughly enjoyed. We had heard that it was the best beach on the west coast of Mexico, and they may be...

Oct 27, 2006 - BARRA DE NAVIDAD - Mexico
