Feb 26, 2020 - Caribbean Island Odyssey Begins

My interest in this trip is purely a selfish interest in the changes which have taken place especially since I last visited several islands at my midpoint in Peace Corps, 1966-67. Climate impacts as related by locals as well as observational impacts will be my emphasis. Sure wish I had a camera 50 years ago. But then I sure wish I'd done a lot of things different. As they say, travel is most enjoyable in hindsight, ha! The photo reflects what Lonely Planet guidebook suggests so we will drop down to Aruba after Cuba and then see what's...

Feb 25, 2020 - Buy It, Read It...Think!

This Author Captures Where I Am...to a religious person, this is something much different from what I see A preview of The Uninhabitable Earth: Life After Warming by David Wallace-Wells: - "It is worse, much worse, than you think. The slowness of climate change is a fairy tale, perhaps as pernicious as the one that says it isn’t happening at all, and comes to us bundled with several others in an anthology of comforting delusions: that global warming is an Arctic saga, unfolding remotely; that it is strictly a matter of sea level and...

Feb 6, 2020 - How much do we really understand?

Frontline Watch For Sama ----- I watched this documentary on PBS and I realized how far most Americans live from the realities outside our borders and yet in how close we are coming to realizing that this may become OUR future as well. I look back at our CIRCLE TRIP over 15 years ago and when we traveled in Syria. Syria had been suffering from many years of drought and dictatorship. Due to what has since been identified as an early result of Climate Crisis, many young people who had grown up in the rural countryside on subsistence parcels...

Feb 5, 2020 - Facts or Myths?

Facts matter if we trust what they say about our past, and perhaps our future. Or do we only trust the myths humans have created in our past? See photo ____ How long will the capitalist and 'free market' drug pushers get away with pulling the wool over the eyes of the public? $300 BILLION?

02-02-2020 This is called a “ubiquitous palindrome”, and the last one was 11/11/1111. The next one will be 12/12/2121. ____ Ze frank makes all okay: Wondering Where You Are? ____ How about this idea: Socialism for the top 1% or for the 90% of the working class

Jan 30, 2020 - What If?

Looking at What Ifs in Life —— I am now at an impasse, almost to the point of immobility w.r.t. what my own life is about? I don't see anything in our present present that makes sense or takes me forward with optimism. Thus, I am going to follow my wife, Bonnie, even though I disagree with some of her ideas because she has given me some sense of continuity throughout my life (to say nothing of creating a loving and positive environment for our family). As always, we invite you to visit us in Montana, please give us some notice ahead so we...

Jan 28, 2020 - Bon to Baja

This morning at 4 a.m. Todd took Bon to the airport for her all day flights to Baja and T.S. I will be getting update texts from her on the happenings there to the best of her ability (which is considerable), but my subscription to this website runs out on the 31st. I am trying to save $$ for our travels coming up end of February so not sure if I'll be able to continue to post until after our return in mid-April. Time will tell as with all things great and small. Just heard from Bon in Seattle via text: Bon "Well, here I am at the Seattle...

Apr 17, 2017 - Final days 'on the dunes'

4/17 Soon after the Jette departure we began the camp 'take down'... We were able to meet up with Moonstone for a dinner 'party' at her wonderful home. Plus, a lunch with Terry and Maxine ... Lots of chatting about 'The Situation' and what's to become of it, us, US, etc...No answers, only questions and anger and trepidation...

Apr 12, 2017 - Jettes in Baja

4/12 We have been tripping around ... beaches, mountains, Baja Beans, La Paz, La Ventana, etc. Rustic camping does not seem to be too hard for the family although, I know they miss their showers and other comforts of home. I must say this will definitely be my last trip down camping. Been fighting a cold, cough, and general tiredness. With the hot days and very cold nights the Jettes have been trying to acclimate...not enough warm stuff for a good night sleep. Plus, their first day on the beach they were not aware of how fast the sun...

Apr 4, 2017 - Carter's Appeal

This Isn't the Real America By Jimmy Carter The Los Angeles Times Monday 14 November 2005 In recent years, I have become increasingly concerned by a host of radical government policies that now threaten many basic principles espoused by all previous administrations, Democratic and Republican. These include the rudimentary American commitment to peace, economic and social justice, civil liberties, our environment and human rights. Also endangered are our historic commitments to providing citizens with truthful information,...

Mar 29, 2017 - Onward to Todos with short stop in La Paz

3/29 Since we had to stay in a luxury suite in Constitucion, we had wifi of course and got caught up, ha! TV had tons of stations but of course all Spanish. I'm needing to catch up my Spanish, and you know how fast the English goes now days on TV (I miss half of it now unless I'm totally focused on it)! Well , forget the Spanish language stations! We were amazed at the progress made on the highway from Constitucion to La Paz, only a couple stretches remain before it is totally new and WIDE! Amazing... It took only a bit over 3 hours to...

Dec 3, 2015 - Dunes from Dec. 3 to 24

Bon and I spent considerable time at Esquina, Cafe Todos Santos, and several other local establishments in and about town as well as 2 Sunday trips to Baja Beans for our favorite carrot cake. We both have come to the conclusion thst we're done camping here in the future - 15 years is long enough and with privacy a much bigger issue we're not in the mood to bare ourselves before the world anymore. Not that we're shy but more that the public has changed here ( higher end and less tolerant). On the bright side, of the 42 plants I've put in...
