Mar 15, 2021 - Waking moments

3-15 Monday Let me begin this episode by saying that in travel as in life in general each of us has to cope with a certain level of frustration. The way I try to cope is by pre-organizing certain predictable events so that I reduce my overall, inevitable frustration to a hopefully more manageable level. One way I do this is by taking with me ALL the pills/medications I anticipate I will need for the projected duration of anticipated travel time. In this case, Bon projected before we left in January that we/I would be returning no later...

Mar 3, 2021 - TS And onward?

3-3 Wednesday ! We have been struggling with where to go from here in TS and find after much investigation that even going to the mainland and Copper Canyon is a big risk $$$ wise since the world is not much available open for tourists and the train runs on an erratic schedule of maybe 3 times a week! We then considered flying direct to different Caribbean islands including back to Cuba to finish seeing the rest of that country! Bummers! Either no flights available or when listed, hugely expensive ($900-1000+ per person - one way!). Plus...

Feb 21, 2021 - Back in TS

2-21 Sunday Got back late due to typical (world wide) red tape you have to go through, I guess so they won’t miss getting your money! The operation went very well, but now that I’m on the other side safe and sound it’s a struggle for me to be a good patient with patience! Once again, having a reputable clinic (St. Judes in TS) were you can rely on their advice and then send you to another reputable hospital where the doctors know what they are doing is invaluable. I was lucky a second time and not expecting a third so no more of these...

Feb 7, 2021 - Moved to Moonstones

2-7 Sunday Today I moved to Moonstones casita...really nice and it has water! Including HOT water for showers...my first in 2 weeks, whew! Bon loves sleeping on the dunes and the ocean sounds so she continues there (also sharing a tiny twin bed is not great, ha). Her casita has a kitchenette, indoor toilet and a nice table where I can spread out and do taxes! Great situation for me...Bon says she’s happiest at the dunes lot. 2-8 Monday Went into see Dan again but no show! Gal there said he doesn’t usually come in on Monday. Would have...

Jan 25, 2021 - Arrival

1-25 Monday Plan to get to TS and set up tents before nighttime. Trip went much faster than expected...also much less COVID-19 exposure in process...taking Hwy 5 was great, little traffic and smooth road. Slowly slowly since not in a rush we find our ‘lost’ items, pack and get back on the road about 10 am! Slowly slowly since not in a rush we find our ‘lost’ items, pack and get back on the road about 10 am! Arrived in La Paz about noon but shot by and on to TS. There about 1 pm we stopped at La Esquina but it closes at 2 every day now!!...

Feb 26, 2020 - Caribbean Island Odyssey Begins

My interest in this trip is purely a selfish interest in the changes which have taken place especially since I last visited several islands at my midpoint in Peace Corps, 1966-67. Climate impacts as related by locals as well as observational impacts will be my emphasis. Sure wish I had a camera 50 years ago. But then I sure wish I'd done a lot of things different. As they say, travel is most enjoyable in hindsight, ha! The photo reflects what Lonely Planet guidebook suggests so we will drop down to Aruba after Cuba and then see what's...

Feb 25, 2020 - Buy It, Read It...Think!

This Author Captures Where I Am...to a religious person, this is something much different from what I see A preview of The Uninhabitable Earth: Life After Warming by David Wallace-Wells: - "It is worse, much worse, than you think. The slowness of climate change is a fairy tale, perhaps as pernicious as the one that says it isn’t happening at all, and comes to us bundled with several others in an anthology of comforting delusions: that global warming is an Arctic saga, unfolding remotely; that it is strictly a matter of sea level and...

Feb 6, 2020 - How much do we really understand?

Frontline Watch For Sama ----- I watched this documentary on PBS and I realized how far most Americans live from the realities outside our borders and yet in how close we are coming to realizing that this may become OUR future as well. I look back at our CIRCLE TRIP over 15 years ago and when we traveled in Syria. Syria had been suffering from many years of drought and dictatorship. Due to what has since been identified as an early result of Climate Crisis, many young people who had grown up in the rural countryside on subsistence parcels...

Feb 5, 2020 - Facts or Myths?

Facts matter if we trust what they say about our past, and perhaps our future. Or do we only trust the myths humans have created in our past? See photo ____ How long will the capitalist and 'free market' drug pushers get away with pulling the wool over the eyes of the public? $300 BILLION?

02-02-2020 This is called a “ubiquitous palindrome”, and the last one was 11/11/1111. The next one will be 12/12/2121. ____ Ze frank makes all okay: Wondering Where You Are? ____ How about this idea: Socialism for the top 1% or for the 90% of the working class

Jan 30, 2020 - What If?

Looking at What Ifs in Life —— I am now at an impasse, almost to the point of immobility w.r.t. what my own life is about? I don't see anything in our present present that makes sense or takes me forward with optimism. Thus, I am going to follow my wife, Bonnie, even though I disagree with some of her ideas because she has given me some sense of continuity throughout my life (to say nothing of creating a loving and positive environment for our family). As always, we invite you to visit us in Montana, please give us some notice ahead so we...

Jan 28, 2020 - Bon to Baja

This morning at 4 a.m. Todd took Bon to the airport for her all day flights to Baja and T.S. I will be getting update texts from her on the happenings there to the best of her ability (which is considerable), but my subscription to this website runs out on the 31st. I am trying to save $$ for our travels coming up end of February so not sure if I'll be able to continue to post until after our return in mid-April. Time will tell as with all things great and small. Just heard from Bon in Seattle via text: Bon "Well, here I am at the Seattle...
