Mar 27, 2019 - ¿Dónde estoy? ¡En Loreto!

On March 17 I flew from DIA to warm, sunny Loreto in Baja California Sur. Both my flights were smooth and on time since my plane was not a 737 Max 8 and the bombcyclone storm had moved on. Mi cara amiga Peg met me at the airport and for the next three days we shopped and cooked in anticipation of March 21. That is the day six of our amigas arrived. Can you say fiesta? Our Loreto Bay villa is a huge 4-BR, 3 bath with a lovely courtyard and a third-story tower with a lovely view of the Sea of Cortez to the east and the Sierra Gigante...

Dec 12, 2018 - Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

We rode one of the Tenders from the ship to shore, which was a first time for us. When you get off the tender, it is just like every other dock, you walk through all the shops. We walked through and decided to walk downtown. There were many three wheel bicycle taxi's trying to get us to use them. We walked a little ways and decided for time we would take a ride. They got cheaper away from the dock. We strolled around the downtown area and pick a restaurant. It was very good, and we drank beer not water. We then walked around some more and...

Feb 23, 2018 - Cabo San Lucas and Whale Watch

Cabo San Lucas and Whale Watch We had to get up early today. We boarded one of the first tenders to shore in Cabo San Lucas. It was a short 10 minute boat ride to the tender docks. Our walk around the harbor to Cabo Whale Watch was another thing! It was almost al around the harbor and at first we thought we were lost. After a phone call, we found the office and checked in. We made it! Lisa, who is a marine biologist led the group of nine of us in a very adequate 32 foot fiberglas boat with twin outboards. We did a quick tour of the Cabo...

Feb 21, 2018 - On Board The Quest

On Board The Quest Feb. 21 One thing we love about a cruise is that, once unpacked, you are set for the rest of the journey. No living out of a suitcase! We are set for the next two and a half weeks. Our first two days are at sea as we ’steam’ along the Baja coast of Mexico. Right after breakfast in our room, we went down to deck five and the lounge chairs. The weather was changing for the warmer (about 5 - 10 degrees up each day). Still, this morning, a light sweater helped. After a lunch and a rest in the afternoon, we got dressed up for...

Feb 8, 2018 - Adios Loreto!

February 8, 2018 Adios Loreto You know what they say about fish and visitors, right? Throw them out after three days. Well, my hostess with the mostest Peg, my gracious host Eric and Rascalito Magnifico have welcomed me for twice as many days. My time here has been filled with laughter, great conversation, eating (of course), shopping, walking on the beach and just soaking in the beauty and culture of the area. I would love to come back here again. I did not spot a whale, plus it is so different from other parts of Mexico I have visited....

Feb 4, 2018 - Baja Beauty, Bounty and Friendship

February 4, 2018 Baja Beauty and Bounty Morning Report: Someone once mentioned that a lot of my pictures include food. (Okay, almost everyone mentioned that). This post might be that way too because the food here is delicious! I am watching Peg make vegan pistachio-cranberry biscotti, a birthday gift for Frank, a good friend of Peg and Eric’s. I am hoping a few pieces fall off so I can taste them. Eric is off on a kayak-fishing expedition with the guys while we rest up from last night’s dancing. We attended a benefit for SOAR, the local...

Jan 17, 2018 - Sea day

Jan 17 Sea day today on our way toward Guatemala. Went to the gym this morning. Jim and I played in a bean bag toss tournament but lost in the first round. The captain announced the temperature was 86 on shore and 84 on the ship. This afternoon it was a lot of fun in the pool. With the boat rocking, the pool was like a wave pool with the water sloshing around. There were a couple of kids having fun, but the adults were enjoying it just as much. Shortly after I got out of the pool, they closed the pools for safety. We watched Ventriloquist...

Jan 16, 2018 - Sea Day

Tuesday, Jan 16 Sea day today. It's getting warmer and some people are in the pools, but they're too cold for me. I hit the gym again, and did lots of walking. Time went ahead one hour, so we're only 2 hours behind now. More time relaxing, in the hot tubs and reading. It doesn't sound like much, but time goes by quickly. Jim went to the comedy show (Merl Hobbs) and I went to The Rock and Roll Piano Show. It was pretty good, and better than the last one.

Jan 15, 2018 - Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Jan 15 It's warmer today, but the pools are still cold. As we got closer to Cabo San Lucas, we saw lots of humpback whales alongside of our ship. We were late arriving in Cabo which is the Marlin capital of the world, so they rescheduled the excursions for us. We took a tender into the port. The Cortez Sea was quite calm today, making for a nice ride in the tender. We enjoyed the Lands End Boat Tour aboard a Catamaran. The guide pointed out the different rock formations. We saw numerous seals sunning themselves on a huge rock. They quickly...

Apr 19, 2017 - Made it to Snta Rosalia

4/19 Got a LATE start...noon ... but Bon is a determined driver and we made it to this fine town. The last time we stayed overnight here was in '77 on our bike trip down the coast and Baja. This time much has changed! The old mine is a museum and we stayed in a motel which once had been the storage buildings for the mine equipment, etc. See photo. 4/20 After a huge day of driving Bon got us as far as Encinata and our last O.N. in MX. On the way into town just before the last Military Inspection stop, we were passed by no less than 17!...

Apr 17, 2017 - Final days 'on the dunes'

4/17 Soon after the Jette departure we began the camp 'take down'... We were able to meet up with Moonstone for a dinner 'party' at her wonderful home. Plus, a lunch with Terry and Maxine ... Lots of chatting about 'The Situation' and what's to become of it, us, US, etc...No answers, only questions and anger and trepidation...

Apr 12, 2017 - Jettes in Baja

4/12 We have been tripping around ... beaches, mountains, Baja Beans, La Paz, La Ventana, etc. Rustic camping does not seem to be too hard for the family although, I know they miss their showers and other comforts of home. I must say this will definitely be my last trip down camping. Been fighting a cold, cough, and general tiredness. With the hot days and very cold nights the Jettes have been trying to acclimate...not enough warm stuff for a good night sleep. Plus, their first day on the beach they were not aware of how fast the sun...
