@@@@@@@ KAPOORS ON THE ROAD We had set out for the Taman Negara National Park from Kuala Terengganu after picking up our rental car and getting a little lost in the city, trying to find the highway that led away from the coast and into the interior. I won’t go into any detail here, but I will admit that I’m a nervous passenger, and sitting in the back seat trying to be the official navigator wasn’t the easiest role imaginable. Once we were out of the city, we were on a narrow highway with tons of oncoming transport trucks, no shoulders to...

Mar 6, 2011 - Tea and Scones

After the mammoth trek of yesterday we all decided it was time to take it easy.So , it was time for tea and scones. With much advice being given(all of it contradictory)we headed out and within no time we found our gem , a taxi driver who would take us all around for the day,at a fair price-excellent.No chance of getting lost. Destination- The Seung Lee Boh Tea Plantation, the most famous plantation in Malaysia. After a hair raising drive to the site you could understand why.Once into the valley the road curled this way and that, with our...

Mar 5, 2011 - Cameron Highlands

After a long 8 hour drive, we were really pleased to arrive at the Cameron Highlands and meet up with Eva and John. So nice to see them and hear all about their adventures in India, also the temperature is cooler, in fact we've had to ask for another blanket as it's cold at night. Our first meal together involved all kinds of curry served upon a banana leaf-very tasty. Today we set off at 10 am to follow a trail into the mountains, aiming for about a 3 hour walk. 6 hours later we returned, exhausted to Tanah Rata, having got completley lost...

Jan 9, 2011 - Phnom Penh #2

I love this city. After some readjusting to the currency, the poverty (not totally readjusted- and doubt I ever will be), the filth, the confusion and the language barrier I find myself in a city that is a buzz of culture, history and new beginnings. It seems an exciting time to be here. It is hard to walk anywhere with an abundance of moto tuktuk's and motorbikes everywhere asking if you want a ride. They don't seem to understand the the need to walk just for orientation. Day three I decided to travel 45km out of town (1 and a half hours...

Jan 6, 2011 - Camodia- Phnom Penh

After a few lazy days in Kuala Lumpur, I arrived at Phnom Penh yesterday morning 8am. The Moto ride from the airport was a great way to see the city at first glance. The traffic here is pretty intense. there is no real give way system. When they reach an intersection everyone just slows down a little and works out which way everyone else is heading. The streets are not so clean and there are people everywhere- lots of little stalls by the side of the road and whole families on motor bikes- the most I have seen so far is 5 people, A mother...

Jan 4, 2011 - Malaysia SUMMARY

I have decided to do a summary on each of the countries I visit. I survived a month in Malaysia! Here are my picks Favourite Place: It's a tough one but I reckon I'll go with Pulau Pangkor. It is most probably because it is where I started the trip full of excitement- everything was new and there was a beautiful beach which I could laze around. The people I met there too helped with this decision. Highly recommended goes to Cameron Highlands and Langkawi. Favourite Event: Would have to be christmas eve in Melaka. Was such a great night...

Dec 27, 2010 - Cameron Highlands #2

I arrived at the Cameron Highlands yesterday afternoon with Marika, after spending the night in KL, returning from Melaka. We went on a planned tour today to see some of the sights of Cameron Highland. With 8 of us in a 4WD we started at the Boh Tea Plantation. The views were spectacular! Rolling hills with Camellia plants from every angle. It really is very beautiful. After a explanation of the way the tea is harvest we spent some time in the cafe that has a 180 degrees view of the farm and had some highlands tea. From there we headed to...

Nov 5, 2010 - Cameron Highlands

Jun 15, 2010 - tioman

hey, it's been a while. To cut a long story short i went to tioman for a few dys to recuperate from the ankle problem and ended up staying there for 10 nights! I travelled there with joe and steph who i'd met in the cameron highlands and we went to the small village of juara on the west side of the island. Don't think i can really do the place justice in words, probably the most beautiful place i've been to with beautiful mountains and jungle on the interior and the most stunning coastline. added to that its really quiet and mostly...

Jun 3, 2010 - hectic few days

ok, so just spent an hour writing this then the bloody thing didnt save. to cut a long story short ive now spent 5 days trekking then had 2 rest days. have gained so much confidence doing some pretty hardcore treks and really proud of everything ive achieved here. did originally go into detail about the treks but can't be bothered to type it all twice!basically climbed 3 mountains in 2 days then slipped and potentially broke my ankle. 2nd time ive done my ankle in a week, think something isnt right, was in screaming agony 2 nights ago but...

May 30, 2010 - cameron highlands - what a place!

sorry, hate to keep saying this, but yet another amazing day!!! Got chatting to a guy and a couple (joe, chainey and katie) last night and they invited me to go trekking with them. so off we set at 10am expecting this particular trail to be pretty tame (cameron highlands has 13 designated trails). boy were we wrong, the first bit was a relatively easy walk to robinson falls, a beautiful waterfall. from there we had to trek thru thick jungle on the edge of cliffs sometimes with less than 15cm to step on. was an amazing walk with so many...
