Apr 22, 2010 - Kuantan

Saturday Early wakeup at 6 in order to get to Kuala Lumpur International Airport for our 905 domestic flight. Made it to KL Sentral in about 10 minutes where we were able to check in and ditch our luggage, with luggage being transferred from the KLIA Express directly to our flight. Was all going well, got on board our lane which was due to take off at 910, only to have captain make an announcement at 920 that, due to mechanical issues, we would be needing to change planes. We disembarked, headed down to the terminal to gate B2 where we...

May 21, 2006 - Kuantan to Pekan

Took a very beautiful minor road instead of the usually busy #3. It continued along the water. We made an extra few kms, but it was well worth it. A very quiet and peaceful road. We went through many little villages of just a few scattered old Malay homes. Tonnes of monkeys, both wild and domesticated on our way. Chickens, cows, goats, cats and water buffalo strolling across the road unchecked and free. Very green and lush. The state Sultan resides in the town of Pekan, but you wouldn't know it by just passing through. We didn't get a very...

Somewhere in Asia

May 19, 2006 - Kuantan

In Kuantan we found a helpful internet cafe in a mall that showed us a quicker way to download photos. Even so we spent a fair bit of time in the mall. Air con and Mission Impossible(English)were a relief from the blasting heat, and little bit of home to remind us that we are still in Asia. We even found a cafe that had cafe lattes and desserts like you would find at home. Sometimes you just want the things you miss from home, but not for too long. We went on our first tour on our trip. It was on the river and to a mangrove area during low...

Somewhere in Asia

May 18, 2006 - Cukai - Kuantan

Pretty easy ride, but we took our time. We rode into Kuantan (last section all downhill) and came to a complete stop at a traffic jam leading into town. Getting around the city was difficult as there were cars everywhere. Two steep flights of stairs later, we were chilling in our room for the night.

Somewhere in Asia

Dec 26, 2005 - Malaysia

We docked early this morning in Kemaman Malaysia. However, we were held in the theatre waiting for immigration clearance. We were well entertained by the crew staff with hilarious dances by the New Zealand guests. Our guide for the day was Julie. We drove on our air conditioned, gaudy becurtained bus for 1.5 hours to Kuanan through neat little villages (no garbage here). Most houses are built up on 2 foot stilts to help prevent flooding in the rainy season. Many nice looking government housing complexes in the condo style or row housing...

Turned out to be a my lucky day mind you, Big day of travelling to get my arse up to the east coast islands of Pulau Redeng and Pulau Perhentian. Shot down the river in just over an hour and half as we were going down stream, pitched up at the jetty about 11am were I had booked a taxi to get me to Kuantan this town on the east coast. Turned out I was able to share the price of it with this Swiss couple Vincent & Sonia, well random. The taxi was about 200ks but only cost me 6 quid, loving that, well I thought I would be till I got in the...
