Nov 11, 2008 - In Kenyaaaaa

Greetz once again everybody! I've had a pretty busy time since my last entry! The other vollies and myself decided to head across the border from Uganda to Kenya to visit Mutumbu, a small town where World Youth have got some other projects they've been working on for about 15 years there! The in-country co-ordinator, has actually been a big help to us in Uganda, even though he's based in a different country! In between Mutumbu and Jinja the roads have degraded juuuuust a tad, so after a buuumpy ride on one of the buses there, we arrived at...

Oct 28, 2008 - Nairobi => Kisumu => Nairobi => Kampala, Visit School & Orphanage in Kisumu

On the 28th we kicked off the day leaving the hotel at 4am for a flight to Kisumu. After landing we had breakfast in downtown -- where the riots and ethnic violence racked the downtown last year. We headed to the hills of Kisumu where we visit the home of our host, Caren. She showed us clothes made by widows she is having trained in sewing. Then we left and drove to her school where we were mobbed by 600 beautiful children who are going to school in conditions that are not imaginable in the US. We left and visited Caren' home for AIDs...

Oct 18, 2007 - Kisumu and Nyanya Obama

It had been quite an eventful last few days. We left for Kisumu early Sunday morning. The trip was pretty quiet, we all spent the time staring out the window at views of the Great Rift Valley and sprawling tea fields. It's a beautiful trip. We arrived around dinnertime and quickly made our way to the hotel. We took up the entire top floor and were amazed to discover a kitchen and common area with an incredible view of Lake Victoria, plus (and most importantly) HOT SHOWERS!! I was starting to think this life-luxury was a fantasy, but they do...

Sus' BIG TRIP

Sep 23, 2006 - Jambo M'Zae (Kisumu, Kenya)

After another marathon travel session that included a 3 hour bus ride, 3 airports, 3 separate flights and only about 7 hours sleep over a span of 48 hours, our tiny twin engine Saab plane landed in Kisumu, a small town located on the shores of Lake Victoria near the Kenya-Uganda border. The purpose of our visit to Kisumu was to visit family friends from Vancouver who returned to Kisumu 11 years ago in order to run their family sugar cane farm. In the media, East Africa has been equally romanticized and demonized. We were curious which...

Aug 22, 2006 - Kisumu - Lake Victoria

We left Masai Mara today for the start of 3 long driving days to Uganda. 5am breakfast and 6am departure. Just a long drive in the truck to Kisumu, Uganda. On the way out of Masai mara some lions crossed the road in front of us but disappeared into the bushes before I could get my camera out so got no photos of them. Passed through some beautiful areas of Western Kenya. Arrived in Kisumu on the shores of Lake Victoria and got our tent up. Pasta for dinner tonight.

My World Odyssey

Jul 11, 2005 - Back to Kenya...

We stayed at 'Rajs' - an awesome campsite not quite finished (so new the packaging was still on the dorm beds). It had a waterfall in the bar and hot showers! Quite a novelty considering hot showers have been so scarce for the last two weeks! Especially the Blue River Nile camp - freezing but had a great view overlooking the river - naked! Had a great meal (Indian always goes down well!) and then heard about the bombs in London. Fortunately everyone I know was ok.
