We were ready for our 5 am wake up coffee from Titus, and boarded the safari balloon truck by 5:30. There were enough guests for two balloons, and we watched the drama in lighting the flares for heating up the air to fill them. I talked to a very nice family from New Jersey who were traveling with their 10-year old daughter and 12-year old son. As arranged, Titus came to wake us up at 5 am for a scheduled balloon flight over the Mara. We had had constant rain throughout the night and we could not imagine that a balloonist would be crazy enough to fly under those conditions. All I could imagine was a two-inch story in “The Chronicle” about a San Francisco couple who fell to their death on a hot-air balloon safari in Africa. Aug 20, 2015 - Bateleur Camp arrival

At 8 am, we met Elijah, our guide from “And Beyond” (the tour agency), and drove to Wilson Airport for domestic flights. On our way through the city, I noticed a lot of very stylish women on their way to work, signaling prosperous times in Nairobi. Elijah gave us a big story about our overweight luggage, and once at the airport he let us know that he had fixed it with the SafariLink agent so we wouldn’t have to pay a certain amount extra.
