Oct 7, 2010 - I`ve Finished the Pilgrimage

So, my Shikoku pilgrimage has ended and I am an official kechigan. That means I have completed the journey. I left Temple 88 yesterday, Oct 6, 2010 and made it back to Temple 1, to complete the circle just before 5:00, when the temple closed for the evening. I received then a special stamp in my book. Wow..I wish I could put into words the amazing journey it was. It was like I was not in control of the journey and you just had to let what happened happen. If you tried to plan, it was difficult and usually didnt work out, but if you didnt...

Oct 7, 2010 - Leaving for Hiroshima

Last day in Tokushima, Shikoku, Japan. Will get on an early bus for Hiroshima, Japan. Saw the Hiroshima International Peace Memorial and museum from the A bomb the USA dropped on Aug. 6, 1945. It detonated 600m above the Dome Memorial building in the photos. It killed 1/3 of Hiroshimas people instantly, approx. 30,000 and only a few hundred were ever found. First time Ive seen Amercans on my month long adventure in Japan. Probably 20% seen here at this memorial. Many tourists overall. Stayed 1 day in Hiroshima and took another 5 hour bus...

Oct 1, 2010 - Through Temple 75!!

Gosh!! Have many stories. All is well. Found a true sushi bar with the food passing in front of you on a conveyer belt...it was soooo good!! And a Yakitori, not like the ones in Colorado but like a mini Benihana!! Haha...You order many small portions and they are grilled to perfection!! I couldn`t read the menu so when the cook threw something on, he would look up at me and I would shake my head yes or no. It became very funny. Chicken shish-kabob, grilled chicken inside bell peppers, and believe it or not..grilled chicken liver...

Started at Temple #44, a long way away and went through Temple #53!! Wow!! I kept running into this Japanese man along my journey. He was on his bicycle and I guess because I caught a train here and a bus there we kept running into each other. Well, today as I sat waiting for a bus, he pulls up in a rent car and asks if I need a ride! Crazy!! We made 8 Temples in his car! ( His bicycle wasnt immedietly fixable ). And the Temples happen to be close together. Ill add photos in a few days as it is time consuming, all in Japanese and I need...

Hi Guys!!A bunch of henros everywhere!! In the big city of Matsuyama from a 2 1/2 train ride. Gees, if I walked that it would be 3 days!! In the rain!! Hm..I like to rough it but the other women from Austria, Holland, etc..in fact, all but us USA girls are camping out and walking more than me. I consider 8-10 miles of walking each day enough so after that I train or bus it!! I do like the warm shower and bed each night!! Marcille asked about the white jacket. That signifies us as henro, temple walkers/seers. People recognize us and give us...

Sep 23, 2010 - Through Temple 36!

Hi guys!! I miss you all. Everyone here is sooo helpful and nice and a few with good enough English to actually have a conversation. Most everything in Kanji and if it is beyond numbers, I dont have a clue!! Met a girl fron Santa Fe yesterday and saw her again today, she speaks good Japanese. This island has all the mountains and beach/coast line anyone could want! And so clean!! If this was in the states it would be overdeveloped, a tourist destination and way over priced!! Going to have a shower..this is crazy, with a swimming pool...
