Okinawa, being Japan's only prefecture in a subtropical latitude, enjoys mild weather year round with beautiful blue water teeming with tropical fish and bright coral reefs. It is truly and island paradise. With that said, we spent the day "reliving" the battle of Okinawa which was the final major battle of the War in the Pacific and the only battle fought on Japanese soil. Jan 13, 2006 - Bigger bumps in the road

On our second day on Iriomote, we rented a car to go sightseeing. After driving 30 minutes to the other end of the road, we started back. Along the way we found the "cruise" up the Urauchi River. After traveling upriver for a half hour, we were dumped out to make our way along the path to view the waterfalls upstream. This was another 45 minute hike in the rain.
