Sep 26, 2015 - Kyoto day 2

Today was Marks choice. So off by bus to his favourite temple and then to a zen garden, which wasn't the one he thought it was, but nevertheless we thought it was great. Don't really need to say anything about either if these places, the photos do better than my words, and even they don't do either place justice. The raked gardens were designed around 1500. Imagine us not interfering with or modifying the design in that many years!! It was reported that it took the students several years to finish this...

Sep 25, 2015 - Kyoto day 1

Loads of walking. Temples being at the tops of hills gives the legs a workout. Fortunately of the 1600 temples in Kyoto we only tried 3. One because it's world heritage listed. Otherwise our legs may have collapsed and we would never have remembered which temple was which! the temple was as interesting as much for the wooden structure underneath as for temple itself because of the skills involved. Note again. Lack of buildings on hillsides..not counting the temples and on access ways to temples! On the steep walk up to the temple...

Jul 30, 2015 - Kyoto Adventures

Kyoto was amazing! Walking the streets, enjoying the aircon in the subways, shopping the street markets, following in the footsteps of royalty at palaces.....it was sensory overload! Can't wait to go back and explore more someday! Our visit to the Kyoto Gosho or Imperal Palace, Nishikyō-ku, Kyoto, was amazing! I see the history and walk where royalty once walked was amazing! It was a wonderful view into the everyday life decades ago and to see the beautiful architecture in person breath taking! Visiting the Nishiki Market was so much fun!...

May 9, 2015 - Sans mot.....Japon

Apr 26, 2015 - Another best day in Kyota - cycling and yoga

When Winnie The Pooh asked Piglet quite recently actually, 'what day is it, Piglet? Piglet in his usual wisdom replied, ' it's Today, Pooh.' To which Pooh replied, 'Oh good, because Today is my favourite day of the week.' 'Here, here' In Kyoto, today is definitely always my favourite day of the week. Gotta love this city! Today was another best day. How can I love two such contrasting and diverse cities so much ie. Mumbai and Kyoto, and I am a Pisces' not a Gemini. I've enjoyed Kyoto immensely, wish I had a couple more days here, although...

Apr 25, 2015 - A day out with Samurai Joe San in Kyoto

The best day yesterday, I've fallen in love with Kyoto all over again after our last visit here many years ago. I generally tend to steer clear of tours, however I do enjoy the walking tours where you really learn about the city and see places I'm often not aware of or able to find on my own. It's a real miss and hit choosing the right walking tour, some guides are long winded and provide heaps of technical information which you have no hope of retaining. I was a bit dubious about Samurai Joe San's tour when I emailed him however it turned...

Apr 24, 2015 - Geisha's, gold leafed pavilions and stone gardens

A total shock to the system having to negotiate life in a big city after the glorious peace and quiet of the mountains and forests for so long. Kyoto is certainly not as I remember it 33 years ago, it is now a big, bustling cosmopolitan city. So many Western visitors and others. The presence of the local Japanese people ensure it remains a great city, they are so polite and kind. A little too kind at times, keen to help and try and direct you, however with no English and not that good at reading maps, to be polite they tend to send you off...

Apr 23, 2015 - Back to civilisation proves to be a shock to the system

Had a great evening last night, I met a foursome (reminded me of our little foursome with Bruce And Marg last year when we travelled through Amalfi and Dalmation Coast together) who we had stayed with first night on the trail, the men hiked most of the track but their wives used busses. We got stuck into the saki and discussed the hike. They went to bed and this rather interesting young Japanese guy started chatting to me, he was travelling in a car for a couple of days with his parents. I met the 3 of them at 6.00 am this morning at the...

Mar 10, 2015 - Tag 8 Nordkyoto

Mar 10, 2015 - Tag 7 Kyoto Station

Mar 7, 2015 - Tag 6 Abreise Tokio Ankunft Kyoto
