Apr 11, 2016 - Atsugi to Mt Oyama day trip

Mon 11th 8-17°C, cloudy c-c-cold wind! We're off for to Mt Oyama today, for a nice trip in the countryside. I walked out of the hotel at 9:45 and was gripped by a gust of wind that would "freeze the orbs off a small brass primate". Dashed back to my room to don a thermal undershirt and change my jacket for a windproof fleece. Wearing her normal light cardigan Mel commented that it was "nice and brisk out" but said nothing more. Brrr. Two train stops to Isehara, No 10 bus to Oyama, about 25 minutes winding uphill to get as far from city...

Nov 26, 2014 - Hon-Atsugi

Hon-Atsugi Wed 26th Nov. Cold, rainy. Slept in nicely, couple of beers last night may have contributed. Weather was bleak, so I took the opportunity to relax. Had dinner with Mel at Ebina Vinawalk, a green, airy outdoor mall, two stations from Hon-Atsugi. We ate at the ‘omrice’ restaurant which specialises in omelettes with rice inside and a sauce of your choice on top. I had mine casserole style with beef stew, it was pretty good!

Woke up early to walk to a viewpoint of Mt Fuji and Mt Oyama together. That was the intention until I looked out the hotel window, cloudy and cold. So much for sunny days. We had to rug up with 3 layers of clothing, mufflers and beanie to brave the cold. It was only about 0 deg C, but stand still long enough and you really feel it. Mel and I took the local train to Machida to buy some computer stuff at Yodobashi. The heaters are under the seats on the trains, glorious warmth that you don't want to leave. I found that buying a Suica card is...

Aug 11, 2013 - Narita City to Atsugi

Celebrated first day in Japan a little too well, but buffet breakfast at the Mercure was really good. Plenty of good strong espresso. Caught the bus to Atsugi, 1h50m trip via Tokyo. Very hot and hazy outside-thank goodness for air con. Checked our bags in at the hotel, then met Mel at the train stn. Amongst heaps of hugs and hellos, decided to go to Ebina for a lunch of Omrice-omelette with rice filling and various foods on top such as pork katsu. Left for Tokyo Skytree Tower via several train lines and subways across Tokyo only to find it...
