Oct 2, 2019 - Day 12 Murano, gondolier ride and St Marks Square

Because we bought 24 hour vaporetto tickets, we decided to visit Murano for the glass making. No mad rush to get out the door so had a leisurely breakfast before heading out. We walked to Ca D'Oro and caught the reverse No 1 ferry to the train station and then changed to the No 3 for Murano. We went past the Island of the Dead on the way and the kids were interested in hearing about it. When we arrived at Murano, there was a tout directing us over the bridge to see the glass making and as we were keen to see it, we walked in that direction....

Jun 24, 2016 - Downtime

Today we had breakfast in the sewing room. Our host, Patrizia, called a local hotel for us and arranged a day at the pool. The head has been constant and I don't know if I can sweat any more. Before we arrived here it was 15 C now it is 37 C. So we geared up and headed to the Park Hotel Villa Giustinian. The hotel was just a few minutes down the road and it was beautiful. We sunned and swam all afternoon. That was needed. Elton then tells me that he didn't put sun screen on. WHAT... he never goes out with out it. So he looks a little...

Jun 23, 2016 - Murano

Downstairs for buffet breakfast. The room was full of people of tours. Then we walked down to the Jewish Getto. We walked around until it was time for our gondola ride. We toured through the Jewish Getto by gondola. Our captain, Chiara, gave us a history lesson as we floated through the canals. It was good time to go as the tide was low and there were not to many boats out to create waves. Yesterday we watched others that didn't look to comfortable as they rocked around the grand canal. We were able to leave out luggage at the hotel for the...

Apr 27, 2015 - Murano, Burano and the other one

Murano, Burano and the other one.... This am I ate all the gf bread I had scavenged so later today I'm going to see if I can find some more. Funnily enough it's tasteless and unsatisfactory. What a surprise! So we set off at about 11am. I was getting antsy as I didn't spend all that money to wait for Kevin holding us up for hours and hours. We finally set off and made our way to the water taxi point, negotiated buying 2day bus passes at 30 euro each and eventually we were on our way to murano. Have I mentioned that it's raining. And...

The Italian Job

Jul 7, 2013 - Venice and Murano

Ignacio : Sadly our last day after a once in a lifetime dream vacation . I have been given the honor of writing the last day. We awoke to breakfast at our hotels interior peaceful and serene gardens. As we sipped espresso and savored the many offerings at our disposal , we began to plan the perfect last day . Our prior plans to take a train to the city of Verona was scratched , the mosqueteros wanted to avoid the hectic train ride and what was to be a busy day , for a more relaxed boat tour to the picturesque and quaint island of Murano ....

May 15, 2009 - A Day in Venezia and Murano

The fog was hovering over the lagoon as I made my way along the alleys to St. Marks Square (Plazza San Marco). I was to meet a travel group at the "travel informatition centre". Well, if you have visited this square, you will realize that such vagueness may be a challenge-- and it was. I gave myself lots of time as the hotel staff indicated I would need. They had no idea where this might be. After approximately 20 minutes of searching I found one tourist office which supported a sign on its door indicating that it would be opening at 10:00...
