Sep 29, 2016 - Pisa and a taste of Tuscany

Well, it has been an exceptionally pleasant day all round. We thoroughly enjoyed it!! It was up earlyish (7am) to get ready for the day ahead. We had already docked in Livorno, a port city on the Tyrrhenian Sea on the west coast of Tuscany. We showered and breakfasted to be in the Epic Theatre by 8.30am. Our tour for today was set down to leave at 8.45am, and leave then it did. The whole operation was a very smoothly run event. We sat, the tour organiser called all the tours. Each one left through an exit door, showed their tickets, were...

May 22, 2016 - The Leaning Tower of Pisa

Today we got up and went downstairs for the breakfast that was included with our room. Fantastic breakfast at the Hotel Bologna. Ate way to much. Then we checked out and took our luggage downstairs to hold till we come back with the car. Down to the town square and a walk about, took a photo of the famous mural "Tuttomondo" done by Keith Haringon the church wall in the square. Picked up the car and again had a small problem with the GPS. We had it in walking mode and she kept putting us down one way roads the wrong way. Disaster. Any way we...

Apr 22, 2016 - Bus to Pisa - need photos

4/22 We headed out to see the last site, Piazza San Marco - unimpressive but nearby was Michelangelos' David! Long line and 15 Euros to see it, ha! Plus, the line we saw was to get tickets for some time later, the real line for now I guess was made up of people who had already purchased tickets some time earlier! Like I said before, I don't understand art so...see photos of long lines waiting, to buy and to get in... ___ Along the way I collected more beads from the ground and we found a Subway to buy our lunch for 5 Euro, not a great deal...

Oct 28, 2015 - Pisa

first view after entering the gates. Pisa - as amazing as the rumours have it. Brian tried awfully hard to straighten it out and once he did it was much easier to me to hold it upright. Brian went inside the baptistery and I waited outside the church. We had to rush off to the tour bus so didn't get a lot of time to hang around ...

Jul 27, 2015 - Pisa

Having trouble downloading the pics so will try and do it at our next location hopefully it will be better. Here is Gee's diary for our day trip to Pisa. I cant believe how the leaning tower of Pisa leant so much. It was a long car journey because there was so much traffic. Eventually we found it. I liked how the tower looked like a cake with tier's sliding off. We tried to do the photo where you tried to push it over. I liked the tower because it was very fascinating. I bought a mini pisa. Then we headed back home. When we got back home...

Jun 16, 2015 - leaving Monco...on our way to Pisa

After our short stop over in Monaco we boarded our bus to continue our trip to Pisa. It was interesting to pass through the port city of Genoa. Genoa being the birthplace of Christopher Columbus. Our next stop was Pisa. Pisa in Tuscany, Central Italy and it is located on the right bank of the River Arno. It is the capital city of the Province of Pisa. Everyone knows that Pisa is famous for its Leaning Tower. The leaning tower is the bell tower of the city's cathedral. The city also contains 20 other historic churches, several palaces and...

May 29, 2015 - Tuscany - Pisa - Venice

This morning we left Montecatini for Pisa just a short drive away. It was great being there early because there was hardly anyone else. It really is an amazing structure and hard to imagine how on earth they were able to build it so long ago. By the time we left it was very busy so we did well. We have a lovely older couple from Canada on our trip. The funniest thing happened today - we were all on the "train" taking us from Pisa to our coach and the hawkers were hassling everyone as usual. Andy and his wife got talked into buying an...

May 18, 2015 - Pisa

Monday, May 18th I woke to find that my body was not happy with me. I could hardly walk. The whole muscle infrastructure of my left hip (yep the new one) ached and I could barely walk without pain. I sat on a bag of frozen peas on the trip to Pisa and wasn’t much improved. We followed the directions into Pisa for our campground. After getting lost a few times and having an unplanned tour of the New Town we finally found where our campsite was situated. BUT it wasn’t anymore. We came upon the largest tour bus parking lot I have ever seen....

Apr 25, 2015 - Bravo Lewy!

Gotta make 2 entries tonight so both cities get checked on our blog map! We set out bright eyed for the busy station this morning. (It's a National Holiday here today... Everytime we ask what holiday it is...The answer is always the same : "National".) Lots of shops closed and locals are travelling. When the train comes into the station to stop, it SCREECHES loudly for minutes to stop and scares the crap outta me every time. Many local touristy folks on the train: a family with a young girl sketching on a pad laid on her lap, a very black...

Apr 17, 2015 - MSC Opera

Food, more food, more food. Paul has got over his queasiness and only feels the sea every now and then. Today the "Shearman" clan were interviewed by Military Trips. We talked about his grandfather and his diaries - from a human not war side. My nephews are having an amazing time eating (and drinking) their way from restaurant to the next, and I have done some dance classes. Have to do something to take of these extra kilos. We will arrive in Istanbul to pick up the next load of people and Paul will be able to get his tickets for the...

Apr 17, 2015 - Goodbye Florence - Hello Cruise.

Well we had a lovely trip from Florence to Venice - again in a very fast train. We were travelling speeds of 240km an hour or more. When we reached Venice we did not have have much time to look around, but we will do that on our way back. By the time we climbed aboard the MSC Opera and unpacked it was time to sail out of Venice. Venice looked amazing from the boat - and the best thing was, we were the biggest boat in the water. Never having been aboard ship before I cannot believe the food. You can eat every minute of every day. The ship is...

Apr 15, 2015 - Last Day in Florence

Today we have had a quiet day again. The weather is glorious at the moment. This evening went to a local vineyard for wine tasting and a meal. It was a lovely night. We were escorted over the winery then sat down to a three course meal being served the appropriate wine for each course. The company of the other tourists was entertaining and good - we were the only Australians. Today we walked around florence and went to a museum and used head sets - not as good as having a guide. We went to the Yellow Bar which is a restaurant in Florence...
