We stopped for lunch at a place called "The Valley Of The Temples", another Ancient Greek settlement area with several temples & other ruins scattered along the hillside. The afternoon itself turned out to be a nightmare as far as getting to our next camp site. Ethel, the SatNav insisted on taking us up into the mountains where she found a big old town with a strange traffic system that she could not navigate. We went round & round & she kept trying to take us down one-way streets & narrow streets with low overhanging first floor balconies...

My list of loves and hates has had to be updated with this new cycle touring experience. New loves: Slowly passing scenery Easy mobility in towns and cities Different perspectives from a bicycle Sweet smells in the breeze (I feel like a dog with his nose in the wind) Solitude on back roads Well paved roads Busy roads with wide gradients Well marked road signs Bicycle conscious drivers (please become one if you are not) Sicilian people (very generous and curious) Granita Dips in the Mediterranean Detailed maps Large food portions Hearty...

Mar 19, 2009 - On the way to Agrigenta

NB Some of the photos go with tomorrow? Tuesday 17th March. Up early to standard breakfast this time with confectioner’s cream in the croissants! Ughh. Put luggage in car and walked to the Greek/Roman ruins. The Roman amphitheatre was a bit of a disappointment but still with a few talking points but the Greek theatre was wonderful. With most of the seating and the stage cut out of the virgin rock it was easy to see how it functioned with the cities elite sitting several rows back with plenty of room and a great view over the bay and out to...
