Oct 5, 2017 - The Duomo and Last Supper

We are up early so we can get to the ticket office at the Santa Maria delle Grazie church by 8 a.m. to get in line for any tickets that have become available for today to see da Vinci's Last Supper. We are close to a metro stop where we buy a day pass and we were there in no time. We are in luck. There are only 3 people ahead of us and by 8:10 we have tickets for 3 p.m. So now we head over to Duomo Square to have some breakfast and tour the magnificient Duomo Cathedral. The cathedral was built by the dukes of Milan to earn Milan recognition...

Oct 4, 2017 - Discovering Milan

After a fitful night of sleeping a few hours, up a few hours, repeat, finally rousted about 8am, had a lite breakfast of oatmeal, yogurt, and fresh fruit, and we were out the door to discover what Milan had to offer. Milan is known as a global capital of fashion and design and our apartment was in the hub of things - oh la la! Too bad we were a couple days early for the famous Fashion Week. Of utmost importance for the day was to see if we could get last minute tickets to see da Vinci’s Last Supper at Santa Maria della Grazie Church. So...

Oct 3, 2017 - Milan

Monday, October 2 & 3 - Wanda Hoodman, Judi Bailey and myself (Judi Clark) are off on another adventure. We were picked up by Letitia (our airport shuttle of choice) and delivered to LAX arrivals area as the freeways were very busy as was the airport and we were beginning to feel crunched for time. However we sailed through security and had time to grab a sandwich and water before boarding our flight for Toronto, Canada. Our scheduled short layover in Toronto before the flight to Milan, Italy turned into a two hour layover due to a delayed...

Sep 22, 2017 - Arrivederci Melbourne, bongiorno Milano!

Hello from wonderful Italy. We arrived at Malpensa airport, Milan, at 6.10 am on the 20.09.17 and needing coffee! Fairly quiet at this time of the day. Caught the Malpensa express train to Milano Centrale. A 40 minute train ride, on a new, smooth, clean train. Melbourne must learn from this! Even the well presented train conductor wore her uniform well, and had diamond trimmed (possibly faux, but who knows!) black boots. Such Italian style. A few station stops enroute allowed the regular, sophisticated perfumed, designer shoe clad commuters...

Sep 14, 2017 - Milano

It was a short drive to Milan from Verona under cloudy skies. By the time we reached Milan mountain tops were showing themselves. We followed Clio into the city and found a hotel ...Campion...adjacent to the underground. After we settled in we took the underground to the Duomo Station. We went first to see Castello Sforzesco. We strolled through the grounds, had a look at Napoleon's great city plans, walked back across the busy streets to the pedestrian only street and along to the Duomo. From in front we caught the B line hop on/hop off...

Sep 13, 2017 - Milano!

Sept. 13/17 - [x] Milano. Arrival in Milan via Frankfurt courtesy of Lufthansa as easy as can be expected although exhausted as usual to start exploring this fascinating city. A very good idea to de-jetlag here. A very bad idea to celebrate arrrival with a large Campari Spritz with proseco in the piazza on an empty stomach & no sleep. After very nearly re-enacting the infamous 'mateus rosee incident of 1983, giddy Marilyn is guided back to our lovely courtyard inn by her amused gallant husband. Fully recovered the next day and able to enjoy...

Dec 6, 2016 - Train to Milan

From Madrid to Barcelona and then on past the French Riviera, my Special Reclining Class train seat has left me with a numb bum! The Spanish Renfe train system is efficient and comfortable and seems to be keeping more or less on schedule. The scenery has been gorgeous and the activity on the train amusing, so the time has passed relatively quickly. I've finished my first book and several magazines but have actually found myself staring out of the windows for extended periods of time, reflecting on life at home and wondering about my...

Jul 7, 2016 - Tour Milano

Buffet and breakfast menu.. oh when will it stop.... Full belly and start the day.. We retrace our steps back to the bus stop so that we are sure of the timing. And while we are there I might as well get another pair of shoes to.. (to match Elton's from yesterday) Then we head to the Duomo as there is a staircase that you can climb up to the terrace. So up we go... you can See all the way around Milan. We can see San Siro Stadium where we were a few days ago. Then downstairs into the Duomo for a long tour around. The Duomo is beautiful...

Jul 6, 2016 - Milano

Downstairs for buffet breakfast and then back on the road. We head to Milano for the last days in Italy. We check at the hotel early and they allow us to check in. I take the bags up stairs and the room is amazing. The bathroom has huge bath robes, and massive shower and a very extensive selection of shampoo, cream rinse, body lotion and mouthwash bar. Back downstairs and we head out to the airport to return the rental car. From the airport we take the bus back into town. We land right back downtown. As soon as we get off the bus I eye our...

Jul 3, 2016 - THE BOSS

Our time in Tavarnelle, Tuscany has come to an end. We pack up and head downstairs to say goodbye to Giam Piero and Christina. I had taken a couple of bottles of Canadian Maple Syrup, advance planning, as gifts. When we meet with them they offer to show us what is next door in the building we were staying in. Giam Piero opens the door and we walk into a wine distillery. Had I known that we would have done some late night scoping out. There are three floors to the production of wine and olive oil. He offers us a bottle of wine as a gift and...

May 19, 2016 - Arrived in Italy

Day 1 Melbourne to Milan Maree dropped me at the airport at 7 pm and I quickly found my friends, Ian, Paul, Lois and Greame, who had already checked in. As usual the check-in process was tedious but straightforward and I waved goodbye to my bike at the Oversize Luggage counter. I trust that we will both be reunited, unharmed, in Milan. My seat, 78G, was in front of a bulkhead on the aisle but the plane was full so there was nowhere to move to stretch out. Dinner came relatively quickly, halfway through a movie, and soon after I had a sleep...

May 16, 2016 - Moving On

Today we hit the road early... First the hotel attendant gave me a bill for 1067 euros.. for our stay.. that woke me up. I had booked the room for the weekend with airmails.. and paid $35 CAN... After a little discussion he picked up another piece paper and said "oh wrong one... my bad" Nice try I wonder if they do this with everyone thinking they will panic and pay..Got that figured out and took off out of there in case he changed his mind.. Down the street to the metro and took the train back the airport in Paris and headed to Milan.. We...
