May 19, 2012 - Orsini Castle, thermal hot springs

Well, I got up early, showered, and headed up the stairs gingerly! Brian was awake, and as a soldier man , he immediately needed a shower at 0700! I started coffee, which he did not care for...,, made eggs with slices of tomato, which he did not care for....water with gas, which he did not care for......, toast and jam, which he liked?, and made a point that Americans do not like "frizz" in their water!!!!! I do, I replied!!!! Red flags start waving!!! And, slapping me in the face! Lol!!!! He then said, " will you be ready to go by...

Nov 27, 2010 - Exploring Viterbo

We came across Viterbo as a place to visit/stay quite by accident. We were looking for a place to stay on our first night in Italy which wasn't too far from Rome. Viterbo was described as an historic walled city which was steeped in history and culture - and what a find it was. The original "old city" still exists behind the original walls. The streets are paved with cobble stones, and there is a good mixture of old and new. We spent the better part of the day just wandering around the streets and visiting the historic museum. The real find...

Nov 26, 2010 - Viterbo

4th hiccup of the day - we miss the turn off the Autostrada for Viterbo - after recalibrating the GPS we find we find we have to do an extra 40km to get back on track (by now navigator Julie is no longer speaking to me!!) The GPS takes us thru the back roads of the countryside - hilly, narrow winding roads in the dark is not my idea of fun (you don't want to know about navigator Julie any more - suffice to say "NOT HAPPY JAN!!!) We finally arrive at our hotel (Best Western Viterbo) - surprisingly, the GPS led us straight to it. After...

Apr 17, 2006 - Charming Viterbo

The next day we got the early shuttle bus to town so we could get to Termini station in time to make an early train out of town on a day trip. Once at termini, we quickly chose tickets to Viterbo, about 2 hours north of Rome, from the self service machines. We only had 15 minutes to get down to the departure area and find the right platform. Of course the ticket was in Italian and had no platform number on it so we asked one of the customer service people floating around where to catch our train. He had no idea, good customer service ah....

Apr 23, 2005 - Italy -- Civita

Day 20 - Sat Apr 23 to Civita This morning we grabbed a rental car and drove South toward Rome, to the small Tuscan hill town of Civita (technically Civita de Bagnoregio, near Orvieto). The drive was... interesting. In Florence we had a tough time finding the highway. The signs, where there are signs, are very confusing, plus you have a large number of impatient Italians tailgating you, and scooters buzzing all around you. After about 25 min we finally found the freeway (though free it is not - we'll get to that later!). Cars drive all...
