Jun 2, 2016 - Capri

Today we checked out and headed down the highway to Sorrento to catch the ferry to Capri. Along the roadway in Sorrento I saw a sign for All Day English Breakfast. Stop the car. So we pull into the alleyway and park. We go in and order breakfast. As we are sitting there Elton is uncomfortable where the car is. The owner comes up and says that we should not park there. He goes and directs Elton down the street to the gas station. That is where we should park. So we do. He says its ok.... so we have a great breakfast. Eggs, bacon, sausage,...

Jun 2, 2015 - Capri

We had such a great day today. We got to have a sleep in because of the anniversary of the unification of Italy so things opened a bit later than usual. We caught topless taxis up to Anacapri and a local guide took us through the Villa of San Michele and we had time to look around at all the beautiful shops. Then we caught private mini buses down to Marina Grande (the very bottom of Capri) and we had a quick lunch and then a boat ride all around the whole island taking in the grottos (caves) and the magnificent faragalioni rocks. We went...

May 27, 2015 - Isle of Capri Italy

Peppe was our exceptional guide on the optional tour to Capri. The weather was perfect so the boat ride over was delightfully smooth. We took the boat from Sorrento harbor to Marina Grande on Capri. To get to Anacapri and Capri we took a minibus. But once the only connection between the port of Marina Grande and Anacapri, the town located on the slopes of Monte Solaro, were the Phoenician Steps - 921 stone steps. Until only a few years ago, it was believed that the steps had been built by the Phoenicians (hence the name). Recent historical...

May 30, 2014 - Day trip to Capri

30 May 2014 Breakfast in the hotel was lovely and very civilised with that beautiful view and gentle music playing in the background to start your day....so nice and the staff was excellent. Initially the road down to the town we thought would be a real pain, but it was quite a pleasant walk, despite being high up, the road was surprisingly easy to walk up and down, providing you didn't get too close to the road, as it was the quick and the dead, should you step off the kerb. Sorrento town is gorgeous, lots of quaint little streets and...

May 26, 2014 - Isle of Capri

Ahh..... Today we sailed away to The Isle of Capri and had our best day. The weather was perfect to spend on a tiny little 'rubber ducky' type 150 hp boat shared with only 4 other folk. Just one of those perfect days when everything goes well, all the plans and expectations fell into place completing the day with our most favourite gastronomic dinner so far. We started off from our little beach at Praiano and cruised along the breathtaking coastline (which we have only done by hair raising bus so far), great views of Praiano, our hotel...

Arrived in Isle of Capri this afternoon! Had a long flight to Rome, then a train ride to Napoli, then a boat ride to Capri! What a beautiful place. Sitting on our terrace relaxing now and heading to dinner soon. We are very tired, virtually no sleep on the plane, but we will catch up in a few days! We only have one night here and will be in Rome tomorrow night.

Oct 2, 2012 - Capri

Waking up in Sorrento this morning we were hoping to open the curtains and see blue skys and blue seas. Unfortunately this didn't happened, we had overcast skys and we crossed our fingers and hoped that it would clear before leaving for our trip to Capri. Our motel was high on the side of hill so we had to walk down to the township to be picked up, not a problem but I was not looking forward to the walk uphill in the afternoon. We boarded our bus and headed down to the harbour in Sorrento. It's absolutely beautiful. Looking back to the...

I dont think there is anywhere I will go in my lifetime that could be more beautiful! It was unreal, like a totally different world! The first day we got there we flew into Rome and had just enough time for a yummy first italian meal before meeting up with the tour bus...

Jul 26, 2012 - Greetings from southern Italy

Hello All. Hope this finds everyone well! Trying to find free internet hotspots was not as easy as we hoped it would be so today we’re at sea and paid for some internet minutes to update you all. Hope this works! July 21st It was sailing day! We zipped through the lines because we were considered VIP status (smell us!) and got on board way more quickly than we’d hoped. We explored the ship, took a short nap, and then we set sail. The ship is beautiful, immaculate (only one month old), and ginormous! An intimate 3,100 passengers…a third of...

Jul 10, 2012 - Italy - Capri

21st June 2012 Today we decided to take a cruise out to the isle of Capri. Our expectation was that on reaching Capri we would be left at the port to fend for ourselves. To our surprise the cruise included circling part of the island and trips into caves and passing through rock arches. The wow factor was back again! While on the cruise a tour guide offered his services to show us around the island. At a cost of course! He seemed very informed and we liked what he had to offer. Capri is very hilly and it was going to cost us €11 each just...

Jun 15, 2012 - Sorrento - Capri - Sorrento

oy what a long day today. Wake up call 6, breakfast 7, and on the bus by 8. Rode by bus to the area in Sorrento to catch the water taxi to the island of Capri. The road was very curvy and winded in and out around the mountain. The view was a beautiful and amazing site. We got on a huge boat that took us about ½ hour to get to the island. Got off the boat & we got on the Funicolare (train that took about 3 minutes to get up to the middle of the mountain on this island. Again more amazing sites. Went on an extra tour with our guide where she...
