Sep 2, 2016 - Goodbye Pescara
The train trip from Rome was amazing , so nice to see all the towns built on the side of mountains , lush trees and beautiful vege gardens . Lots of olive trees but very few animals , they say the animals are kept up in the mountains. We saw the hay bailed so gathered they must be somewhere . We were 5 hours on a train that stopped and started through the villages , we travelled from one side of Italy to the other. We are staying at a nice hotel 150mtrs from the beach , the staff are amazing , I will definately write a review for them ....Jump to full entry
Sep 7, 2012 - Last Preparation for Voyage/On the Mediterranean Sea
Today, I left my hometown of Rome, Italy. I spent days preparing for this incredible journey. I am supplied with, water, assorted fruits and vegetables, chicken, eggs, bread, a compass, blankets, clothes, a computer for blogging this journey, and I also created a map. I started on the Mediterranean Sea, heading southwest. Currently, I am sailing on the west coast of Africa.Jump to full entry
Jul 3, 2012 - Pescara, Seaside Town
I took the bus to Pescara to get some cash since the only ATM machine in Alanno is for a small bank and would not work for me. In Alanno, no one takes credit cards so I was getting low on cash. I did learn how to send myself money through Western Union. If you ever need to do this remember you log on to the WU website then you find a location nearest you, anywhere in the world. Choose to use a credit card or pay pal and in just minutes you can get money. In Pescara was a little difficult because they are not used to receiving money, just...Jump to full entry
Jun 8, 2012 - June 4-8.....Pescara
Well, some say that you shouldn't return to a place and try and relive the beautiful time you had before!!! Not so! I arrived in Pescara, in the rain, taxi to the Hotel Carlton on the beach and hit the supermercato! I relaxed, went out for a bite to eat and decided on my plans for Sardenia! I awoke, had a delicious breakfast and headed out on the bicycle. I rode south, which wasn't that pretty so I decided to turn around and head north. Stopped at a few bars for espresso and spied a public beach.....locked up the bike and headed to the mare...Jump to full entry
May 27, 2012 - BooHoo! But I must be movin' on!!!
Alessandro met me at 10am for an espresso! ! What a fine guy he is! There is a big celebratory party at the beach and in town today....champions of soccer.....Pescara! I bid farewell and walked the streets/beach one last time....here at the Stazione awaiting my trena to Lecce!! I have learned not to expect, but I sure hope my next stop proves to be as exciting as this one was! I have met the most fantastic people on this adventure and will remain in contact, with all of them! I am truly blessed and thankful for all that has been happening!...Jump to full entry
May 26, 2012 - Sleep and soccer!!!
To say the least, I slept until about 12noon! Grabbed an espresso and hit the streets.....meandering about, window shopping and checking out the downtown area! Nice, relaxing afternoon.....it clouded up so I went back to my room and updated! Around 6 pm the boys showed up at the Tumbler, which I spied them from my balcony!!! And the town was a buzzing due to the soccer tournament that starts at 8!!! They bought me a pescara soccer scarf and I got a t shirt.... Everyone was wearing them and i did not want to be out of the loop!! :).....I...Jump to full entry
May 25, 2012 - Unbelievable day/night!!!!
I woke up and had an excellent breakfast: yogurt and cereal, cornette, espresso, cantaloupe, and pineapple! Decided to walk the beach to Montesalvino (8 km)....absolutely beautiful... Mind, body and soul was restored! Lots of thinking, praying, and thanking for this wonderful opportunity! Walked around the city centro, found a spectacular pair of boots (225 euro).... Decided next time! Which by the way, there WILL be a next time! :)...headed back to Pescara after an espresso... Decided to call Alessandro which they had been waiting on my...Jump to full entry
May 24, 2012 - Trains and trekking !
After a very long train ride, the regional ones stink! , I arrived in pescara about 5pm. I decided to walk through town, luggage in tow......get a little air and scope out some hotels! I had done some research on several and thought I settled on a beach property. It was a little too far out, I was tired, so I went back near the centrale and booked the Hotel Alba! It had fabulous reviews on the hotel site. I have a single room with little balcony overlooking the city centro. After being in solitude for 8 days, figured I needed a little city...Jump to full entry
Entering southern Italy, while reinstalling us on familiar ground, was a culture shock. In the last week we have learned: • You know that the summer season is over when the ice cream fridge is wrapped in shrink wrap. • You have heard of GMT, Eastern Standard Time etc.; well southern Italy is on a new time zone. This time zone is always 2 hours later than the time you were told to show up to meet the computer technician, collect your pizza or whatever..... • When the home made pizza is finally ready it is wonderful – even for Liz who should...Jump to full entry
Jul 6, 2011 - Day at Loreto Aruptina
Day at Loreto Aruptina We were all feeling very tired – poor Aleisha took about ½ hour to wake up in the morning so it was a lazy day sitting around the pool and eating again. Very hot today. Also had a family table soccer tournament which was heaps of fun. We swam in the pool and then went into the little village for a Panini and coffee (oh and a gelato) That night we drove into Pescara for dinner and had the best Pizza so far! The traffic was crazy again getting in there but Jonathan rose to the challenge.Jump to full entry
Jul 5, 2011 - Amalfi Coast to Loreto Aruptina
Sorrento Peninsula – Amalfi Coast – Loreto Aruptina We left the accommodation as early as we could – you have to fit in a big Italian breakfast first! And drove around the Amalfi Coast. Those of you that have done this will be smiling about now – its madness. The roads are so narrow and there’s cars everywhere. Having said that, it is totally gorgeous and well worth it. The homes are built right down the cliffs and there are lemon groves everywhere. We stopped at a fruit and vege stall because we couldn’t believe how big the lemons looked....Jump to full entry
Oct 12, 2009 - Montesilvano, Italy
We took a train across the country to the east coast through some of the most beautiful terrain we have seen, on our way to Montesilvano, a small seaside town on the Adriatic Sea, just north of Pescara. It served as a place for some down time. Staying in a small B&B with garden, kitchen, washing machine and free internet, we spent 4 days relaxing, walking on the beach, doing laundry and pedicures, cooking our own meals and researching our next countries: Albania, Greece, Turkey and Egypt. .Jump to full entry
