Mar 7, 2015 - The party island, Gili Trawangan

After having no access to media or nightlife at Via Vicare, we thought we might want a bit of civilization. The northern Gilis off of Lombok have become quite developed in just a few short decades, and Gili T is known as the "party island." We were up for a party! The island is serviced by little horse-drawn carriages, and our bungalow was an easy walk to a great snorkeling beach and happy hour spot (gotta love those 2 for 1 drinks!). We spent hours chatting with our hosts at Mama J's corners; Tamy from Slovenia, tim from Germany, and Nico...

Mar 30, 2014 - I can see very well….

There’s a boat on the reef with a broken back And I can see very well There’s joke and I know it very well It’s one of those that I told you long ago Take my word I’m a madman don’t you know…. Hahahaha….. I left Mexico to once again travel half way around the world, I flew from Cancun to Atlanta to Tokyo to Bangkok where I had to switch Airports to catch a flight to Bali, Indonesia. The whole adventure was something like 43 hours from door to door (or should I say hotel to hotel). I had to post up in Bali for a few days to recover. Not a...

Mar 13, 2014 - Gili Trawangan Adventures

Thursday, March 13: Wake up and jump in the pool! Yay! It’s nice weather again. I had a banana pancake for breakfast and played by the pool for about 2 hours before we all grabbed our bikes and rode to the central beach. There, we rented snorkels and found our place at the beach. It was really hot and the water looked beautiful, so we all decided to take our first snorkeling adventure. When you walk in, there is a steep drop off into coral, so you need to start swimming almost immediately. The first 15 yards are nice, all of the same...

Mar 13, 2014 - Gili Trawagan Day 1

Wednesday, March 12 We woke up so early! First time waking up to an alarm clock in a while… 6:30am is not my friend. We took an hour and a half van ride to Padangbai to catch the ferry. Once there, we had to wait for another 2 hours before our ferry finally arrived (damn island time). The ferry ride was a little scary. I thought they were going to roll the boat at one point. What’s the point in taking hard cuts in a large speed boat? Frightening. After making a stop in Lombok and Gili Air, we finally arrived on Gili Trawangan. The water is...

Nov 18, 2013 - Intro to Gili Trawangan Island

Sorry it has been a while since I updated you folks... I had come down with a terrible case of traveller's illness. I will spare details, but I haven't been in the mood to write. But I am on antibiotics and I AM BACK!!! So I left Ubud on Saturday morning. It was sad to leave my friends but thankfully (or not) I was so distracted by my stomach cramps that I didn't really bother with lengthy goodbyes. Girls (and boy)... I do love you all, just wasn't feeling that great. The good news is I get a second round of goodbyes this weekend with...

Jul 16, 2012 - Gili T: Paragraph 9 - Back to the Beach

Hellooooo from the Gili Islands! We spent a few days wandering Kuala Lumpur, which I actaully very much like as a city. Much cleaner and more spacious than the other Asian cities I have visited. We wandered the markets, and tasted some amazing food, and went to visit the famous Patronus towers. We also visited the aquarium which was a bit of fun! We then flew to Bali and were taken to our lovely (but fairly pricy) guesthouse a little way outside Kuta. We were all tucked up and ready to go to sleep, when I realised there was something...

Mar 24, 2012 - Gili Trawangan

Hello everyone, We have to tell you all about Gili Trawangan AKA Gili T. Totally gorgeous and spell binding. The night time arrival was grim though. We arrived at the dock at dusk and boarded a longboat that seemed determined to roll over and capsize. The closest we came to actually rolling over was once the 40+ people were crammed on with at least 50 cases of beer (fair enough) and then luggage was tossed down into the passenger area only to be replaced with propane bottles. The 5ft long ones, and 5 in all. The forest was the worst...

Asian Adventure 2011

Nov 27, 2011 - Went to the well but the water was dry....

Dipped my bucket in the clear blue sky Looked in the bottom and what did I see? The whole damned world looking back at me.... Satu Lagi! (One More) Here I am back in Gili Trawangan, Lombok, Indonesia. I'm sitting in my friend Alfredo's villa looking out at blue skies and swaying palm trees. The weather is warm, no hot, and the pool looks incredibly enticing. I promised myself though that I would get a journal entry up and posted with a few pictures before succumbing to the urge to lie around and do nothing. So, I am back on the road and...

Nov 24, 2011 - Thanksgiving Day

Today is Thanksgiving Day. And I get to spend it in paradise. How very very happy I am. And still so very grateful to be able to be where I'm at at this very moment in time. I start out for a walk on the esplanade and stop for a juice at EGO, where they have wifi. I post a beach picture to Facebook, just because it doesn't seem fair to keep this all to myself, it needs shared. Finally decide on a piece of perfect beach, and into the water I go again!! Met several people today from all over, one from France, 2 from Sydney, 2 from...

Nov 23, 2011 - Paradise. Bliss. Heaven. Escape. Love. Beauty.

Have you ever looked back at your life and had that one day in particular that you remember exactly how you felt, exactly how things smelled, and it's almost like a movie of parts of the day are played back in your mind? Well I hope that yesterday is like that for me. I never want to forget the awesomeness of yesterday. I woke up at the ass crack of dawn, and walked down the narrow winding back walkway that took me away from the homestay that I had been at for the night, across the street to the place that we had arranged to pick up and...
