Ab dem vernachlaessigbaren, aber verkehrstechnisch leider unabdingbaren Kaff Aurangabad, wollten wir die Unesco-Welterbe Staetten von Ellora und Ajanta besuchen. Ein kurzer Tagesausflug nach Ellora ging sich aus und war allemal lohnenswert, da bisher einzigartig. Die hiesigen 34 Hoehlen aus dem 6. Jhdt. nach Christus mit buddhostischen, hinduistischen und Jain-Darstellungen sind sehr kunstvoll aus dem Fels gehauen und wunderschoen anzusehen. Noch dazu waren wir unter der Woche nicht den Touristenmassen ausgesetzt und konnten so die Hoehlen...

Well Ellora has to be the most impressive place we've been the temples have been carved out of the solid rock of the mountain by hand since 6th century BC. They have utilized natural caves as well as creating columns to support their man made temple caverns. The effort put into these constructions is astounding.. The staff will sweep the dust from the cave floors but will not pick up the rubbish floating around in the pools or stuffed into crevasses by dumb tourists (Indian tourists mostly) I don't get it!

By Mette (approved by Joergen :-) Udenfor Aurangabad ligger ELLORA hulerne - gigantiske templer, udhugget direkte i klippegrunden af hinduistiske, buddistiske og jainistiske munke gennem flere hundrede år. Forestil jer en klippeside, hvor en flok munke engang er stået næsten ved toppen. Og disse (hinduistiske i første omgang) munke har fået en ide og formået at omsætte den til handling: hvad med at skabe et monument eller 5 til ære for vores guder. SUMMARY  Ajanta Caves  The lovely taxi ride to my next port of call  Trying to get a hotel  Getting train tickets for the next three destinations DETAIL A tuc-tuc to the bus station and wait for the 7:00am Ajanta Caves bus. It comes, at least I think it’s the right bus and I push and I shove and I squeeze onto the bus. We leave dead on 7:00 and it’s a rickety old bus and I make it by 8:30 as planned.
