Decided a few days ago to go to Madikeri. Madikeri is a market town and is the launch pad for treks within the region. I need to get out the town and head for the hills for some fresh air. Raymonte decided to come along so we caught the 12:35pm bus from Mysore. My first experiance of an Indian bus station and was pretty much how I thought. A little caotic and people walking around carrying things the size of a comet on their heads. THe bus was a shock. On another jaunt...

Nov 29, 2005 - extreme trekking

We began our three day Trek in Madikeri on Tuesday, our weekly malaria tablet day. But in the dry long grass and dense forest mosquitoes were the least of our worries. Chris was the first to notice the ominous trail of blood trickling down his ankles. And then the culprits - a stadium of tiny black wriggling leeches standing to attention on the mulch doing the mexican wave around our feet. Anna, the Swedish girl also on our trek, had no chance in her sandals. Chris had to hitch his trousers up with a clothesline to stop the bloodsuckers...

Chris and Kim's Trip

Dec 9, 2004 - Madikeri

Madikeri is the Capital of Coreg which is an independent district in Southern India. It is beautiful hilly country with spice and coffee farms. We are staying in a small hotel "Capital Village" on a coffee plantation. This morning we took a walk through the country side on some foot lanes up to a "snake" temple where the locals come to give offerings and appreciation. It was a beautiful walk. The countryside is green and covered with a canopy of trees protecting the coffee plants. The beans are a ripening red and are being picked and dried...
