Dec 25, 2006 - Bangalore, India

Merry Christmas Everyone!!!!! What better way to spend the day if you can't be with family than to be out in the sun on a golf course. This morning we found ourselves on India's second oldest golf course for possibly the most expensive round of golf I'll ever play. The course was immaculate with annual membership at around AU$3,000 and facilities to match. It's home to some of the most influencial people in the country, but leaving us aside, it also hosts the wealthiest and most powerful people in the city (and given the money circling the...

The Wanderer

Nov 18, 2006 - Bangalore and beyond - the oddessy continues (as does the spelling lessons ;-))

Hi all! Here we are in Mamallapuram on the east coast of India in the state of Tamil Nadu. We're south of Chennai which was a shithole (in 4 words or less!) however we are now out of the big city areas and are enjoying quieter times at the beach. We're heading off to Pondicherry tomorrow, a French Enclave which is tax free and apparently has cheap alcohol! (which is Robbieji's reason for going!!) We spent two days earlier this week in Bangalore, the IT capital of India after arriving safely (which in itself was a miracle as we were on the...

Get It INDIA!

Sep 19, 2006 - Everyday I laugh, cry and always eat curry!!

Well here we are in Bangalore and it is so different from the chilled out Goa we have come from!We left Goa on Sunday at 12pm, our taxi driver took us to the airport and I was really sad to leave, everyone was so kind, I was really nervous about the airport too and getting to Bangalore and what it would be like! I can tell you I couldn't have even begun to imagine!!! I got a bit stressed at the airport putting my pack safe thing on, it's like a mesh that locks your rucksack up, not sure what good it does really apart from stressing me...

Sep 3, 2006 - Bangalore Otra Vez...y Se Hizo El Caos

Aug 15, 2006 - Aug 13 - 15: Welcome to Bangalore

Aug 13-14 - To start this little journey that Unisys has sent me on, I flew out of Salt Lake City around 1:00 pm. Mom, Jenni, and Aunt Barbara came to the airport to see me off...which was way cute of them!! The flight to Bangalore was LONG, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I flew from SLC to Chicago. I had a few minutes in the Chicago O'hare airport to call the fam one last time before I left the country and grab a Chicago dog for dinner...yummy!! Then I jetted off to Frankfurt, Germany! About 8 hours later Frankfurt was...

India Trip 2006

Aug 11, 2006 - 8 - 11 agosto: bangalore, Kochi, Allepey

Bangalore, 1 a.m.

Jun 18, 2006 - Bangalore!

Stay Tuned..... Read "giggity". Ok so I'm now actually in Mysore....leaving tomorrow for Madikeri and then Hampi. About Bangalore.....well. Basically all you hear about Bangalore is the food and drink and shopping. That's basically all we did there. Its such a nice city.....at no point did i feel like I was still in India actually. Almost no beggars, no one trying to rip you off, fancy restaurants with good service, and soooo clean! It was nice, but a real money grab. I have a few pretty fond memories of Bangalore though. The evening of my...

May 3, 2006 - Frustration in Bangalore

Hello everyone We're in Bangalore on an unscheduled stoppage for the night - our flight to Cochin (which we were very pleased to get at the last minute because the flight was supposed to be full) was indeed too good to be true, because after sitting at the airport for about 4 hours, they eventually cancelled the flight. We decided to go to the station to find out whether there were overnight trains - and what an experience that was. Africa did not prepare me for the mob that descended upon us when we got off the rickshaw at the station, nor...

Mar 20, 2006 - India - Onward to Bangalore and Hampi

Luna's Log: After over 3 months on the road it was a blessing and relief to be received by our wonderful host family in Bangalore. How lucky were we to have our friend Tara put us in touch with her dad Prasad and aunt and uncle Lakshmi and Kumar? Not only did they graciously let us use their home as a base, but they watched over us as if we were their own kids and we were SOOOOO GRATEFUL! Comfy digs, home cooked meals, cozy conversations over snackers, wine and beer about the complicated history of India. Just what we needed. India is just...

Mar 13, 2006 - Bangalore Week 1: Painting & Planting

ARRIVAL, PAINTING, PLANTING AND OTHER STORIES WHERE THE *$#@! IS MY LUGGAGE? It was only a short hop from Colombo to Bangalore although Sri Lankan Airways still managed to serve a more than passable meal with an impressive level of service. The flight arrived on time but I had a bit of a worry with the luggage. I waited ages for my pack to come onto the conveyor and there was no sign of it. The conveyor then stopped and a man in a uniform indicated that was it - no more baggage. It was at that point a small knot of people on the far side...

Feb 1, 2006 - Bumping Bangalore

Ohhhh Bangalore, wherefore art thou Bangalore? For the first time we are shocked to see McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut, Domino's and trendy internet coffee shops all on one street... have we left planet india? No, we've just entered the newest high tech city of Asia, the call center, IT capital of India - Bangalore. Have you ever asked someone at the other end of an '800' number where in India they are living... chances are good that it's in Bangalore. We've seen more women in jeans and t-shirts in the past 2 days than in our first 2 weeks here...

Nov 17, 2005 - Varkala and Bangalore

So yet again it has taken us a while to get the updates going. So we hope to get several different postings up with pictures and such over the next few days. These will be a bit shorter as we were moving around quite a bit. So we left school and headed to a lovely couple of days at the beach. We ended up staying away from town and thus we were granted our own personal beach, of course this was at the bottom of a 150 sheer cliff. (at least they were nice enough to provide some stairs) This part of Kerala is a bit of a smaller tourist area...
