Apr 12, 2008 - INDIA: 10 days of Silence, 110 hours of mediation...Arggggghhhhhhhhhh

I am out at last. They released me and I am attuning myself again to the big wide world. Yep, I was mad enough to sign up for a silent mediation course, or prison some might say. TEN days to be left alone with just me, my wandering mind and bodily pains. Not what you would expect from someone who can't focus her mind for more than 10 minutes let alone meditate. Who has back pains like a 68 year old granny and who cant sit still for 5 minutes on a chair, let alone 11 hours a day on the floor!!!!! But I did it. I survived and I am dead...

Mar 13, 2008 - Bangalore

Feb 23, 2008 - Bangalore

I took the sleeper from Hampi to Bangalore and to be honest I was really quite nervous, but I had no cause for concern, I was traveling in what they call 3AC sleeper class which is just one step above basic free for all, but the agent assured me it would be fine and it was – there is 6 bunks in the main compartment and 2 on the aisle so I landed lucky and had the bottom bunk on the aisle. Almost everyone in the compartment was western – 3 guys traveling together who met in New Delhi, and one older American guy who can only be describe as...

Jan 30, 2008 - My second day in India!!

I made it!! Here I am in Bangalore (or Bangaluru, new name!) and it's been such a wild ride thus far, I'm not even sure where to start! But first and foremost, I am completely safe and happy, and in the company of some VERY very kind Seattlites! It's amazing the way the universe works, because here I am staying in the spare bedroom of a friend of a friend of a friend's back home after two days in the seediest part of town! And this pad is beyond plush! We've got swimming pools and club houses and gated entries to boot! But getting back to...

Joy in India

Nov 16, 2007 - India

May 21, 2007 - I made it!

Well as the story begins, I made it. I made it through a 25 hour long travel journey to get to Bangalore, India. And what a journey it was. Actually, to put it technically, I left my apartment at 7:30 am on May 20th and I got to my hotel at 2:00 am on May 21st. So, from the 11 ½ time difference, that makes it 1:30 pm MST. That is about 30 hours of travel, flight, and airports. Whew. The flight to Atlanta was short and sweet compared to the other two flights I had. There really is not much to report about my flight to Atlanta...wait the...

Mar 14, 2007 - Bangalore

We arrived in the massive city of Bangalore in the late afternoon and although we were prepared for the onslaught of the traffic we had heard so much about, we were surprised at the extent of the greenery in the city and the large number of parks. The traffic was heavy but seemed to move in an organized fashion and soon we arrived at Mahatma Gandhi Road, which is the epicenter of the shopping malls, eating joints and high-end lounges in the city. We were planning on visiting the sister of of our good friend Dilip Kembhavi, Keerti...

Feb 6, 2007 - India - 'On my way'

Arrived in Germany and after quite a few laps on the skyrail managed to find Section B of the terminal I was to depart from. Went and had my last Mcdonalds to pass the time which it certainly did. Boarded the flight to Bangalore and would be in Inida in 6hrs time. During the flight got talking to the guy next to me who said I was lucky to be going as (don't read this bit mum) there were some riots in Bangalore yesterday that turned quite nasty. Think it was about one of the areas of India damming a river and stopping the water to another...

Jan 29, 2007 - Braving Bangalore with Celine Dion

Matt: The two hour train trip from Mysore to Bangalore goes quickly; I write my final blog entry for Mysore and Laura reads her book. Before long, the dry dusty hills become towns, then billboards for IT consulting companies appear along the roads, and suddenly we're in the city. Bangalore is one of India's two major IT centres (Hyderabad is the other). It will be our place to investigate our ATM issue, do some internet work, and hopefully use the internet phone to call Air Canada and the bank. We will also do some shopping here; the...

Jan 25, 2007 - Day in Bangalore, on our way back to Mumbai

After a nine hour over night train journey, we arrived in Bangalore, this morning at 7am, a nice early start! we found a nice posh hotel to have breakfast in and to use their facilities to clean ourselves up! a few funny looks from the manager as we left. we headed over to have a look at the city market but their wasn't much to see apart from fruit, veg and flowers, so to fill in the rest of the day we spent a few hours shopping, going to the cinema and then bowling, unfortuntley there doesn't seem to be many things to visit in Bangalore,...
