A confession: we are heat wimps. So every chance we had, we fled into the mountains to the towns that used to be British hill stations. Chamba is another of these, northwest of Dharamsala, closer to Jammu and Kashmir. Chamba used to be a kingdom of its own, and because of its geographical isolation and difficulty in getting there, it was never conquered by the Muslim Mughals.
