Junagadh e' stata amministrata fino all'Indipendenza Indiana da una dinastia di Nababbi, i Babi, che avevano giurato fedelta' al sultano di Ahmedabad. Dopo la Partizione il Nababbo scelse di fare parte del Pakistan, scelta piuttosto impopolare da queste parti dove Hindu e Jain sono la maggioranza. Risultato: il Nababbo se ne e' andato da solo, Junagadh e' diventato un distretto del Gujarat.
