Jan 23, 2016 - Day trip to Modhera (Sun Temple) & Patan (Step Well)

1/23 Ate 'breakfast' at New Lucky...greasy doughnuts...spicy dough things Mari likes. Luck I ordered a lassi as well. Back at Metropole where our hired car picked us up just past 8:30 and we headed toward Modhera and Patan. We arrived at the Modhera Sun Temple site about 10:30...after an hour exploring (see photos), we headed to Patan. We enjoyed the travel through the countryside just as much as seeing the sights, although the Patan step well was truly impressive. Again see photos. ___ On trip back we were able to communicate to our...

Jan 22, 2016 - Day trip to Lohtal

1/22 At 8:30 we took a hired car to Lohtal which took 2 hours getting to and 2 more return...only to find out when we arrived that the museum (where all the artifacts are displayed), is closed on Fridays! Back in town we went to New Lucky Restaurant for our 2:30 p.m. 'snack'...mine was a thali so I was stuffed. Bon & Mari tried to get something at MGs Restaurant but unlike this morning at breakfast, the manager on duty this time refused to give them the password when only ordering drinks! Bon decided to pay 20 rupees for an hour of wifi at...

Jan 20, 2016 - Train to Ahmedabod

1/20 Said goodbye to C & L, walked a block to the bus stop and by 10:30 a.m. we were standing in the train station waiting for our 11:20 train which arrived at 11:45 & left at 11:55! On the train an Indian couple (retired) introduced themselves and told us their daughter lives in Vancouver (married a teacher who was her teacher at a Catholic school in India) and their son, an engineer, is living in Boston. Very nice chatting about family and current affairs (cost of medical in US & Canada, etc.). Mari and I played rummy  for several hours...

Mar 18, 2013 - Colorful Culture

Today I went to India. I was excited to see all the beautiful color! My first stop was the Taj Mahal. Did you know it wad built by Shah Jahan for his wife? Next I learned about Indian dance and clothing. Brides in India wears a bindi for the rest of their life to show they are married. They also wear red and get henna tattoos for their wedding. I had fun learning the dance steps... up, up, side, and, side. I learned about one of the gods, Ganesh. He looks like an elephant and is the god of wealth and prosperity. I enjoyed my day in India.

Mar 3, 2013 - Ahmedabad

Wednesday, February 27 Today we headed south from Mt Abu and crossed into Gujurat, another state of India (they have 37). We stopped at the border to pay the entry tax (I think it is a road tax). We had the twisty drive down the mountain, then got on a freeway. Our sightseeing stop of the day was at Modhera, so we got to find our way there. Kana is not familiar with Gujurat, and road signs are sometimes cryptic, so he asked directions a few times, and we found our way. The site we wanted to visit was the Sun Temple. We wanted to see an...

Sep 7, 2009 - Final Days

Our two last days in Udaipur were well spent. On Friday the 4th we spent the day exploring the city palace and went on a boat tour of Lake Pichola. We're lucky we got to Udaipur when we did because apparently three weeks ago there was no water in the lake! That would've been a bit of a bummer since half the appeal of Udaipur is the lake. We retired to our favourite place in the palace for tea again after another long day. The next day we moved hotels to one just outside the city, formerly the royal hunting camp. We hung out by the pool and...

Aug 7, 2009 - ancora Ahmedabad

Staremo a vedere, inshallah.
