Jun 10, 2017 - Tranquillity in South Goa, Agonda Beach.

Tranquillity in South Goa, Agonda Beach. Agonda is a small village in Canacona, South Goa. Agonda Beach is a great spot for relaxing, swimming and sunbathing with still relatively few tourists. Its is a nice long pristine 2km stretch of beach. It is definitely the best for people who want to be in a calm environment away from the hustle of the North Goa Beaches like Baga and Calangute. Theres no Loud Music and No Clubs and few tourists as compared to other beaches which makes it a perfect travellers spot. A Perfect Getaway The Beautiful...

Apr 30, 2017 - leaving goa

I'm writing from a cab with a/c. Friggin amazing. Yesterday a couple of us ventured to the end of the beach to try to get to monkey island and butterfly beach... There's no monkey or butterflies there . There are people selling boat rides over there but we were able to walk across the river part between the two and just held our bags over our heads. It was cool over there.. it was pretty rocky.. I cut my foot on a rock :(. I've been keeping it super clean and with polysporin and then a dressing and a tensor wrap over top, and then a sock...

Apr 28, 2017 - Honk honk

Yesterday we rented motorbikes for the day and drove up to Arambol beach. We were told there was surfing up there but we didnt come across any. We spent the day on the beach and walking thru the market there. The motorbikes were an experience. Aylish drove and I rode the back...for some reason I was completely calm during the whole experience. Aylish took to it like a pro. There are signs every once in a while pointing in the direction of where to go but we relied mostly on slowing down, asking someone ome on the street and they would just...

Apr 28, 2017 - palolem among others

We got here and had an amazing day on the beach. We walked down and explored. . It's a little more rocky so you have to climb and work a little for the view but it was nice. The three of us got to the end of the most deserted Peninsula of the beach, had a smoke and talked about our favorite animals. We came back and a girl spotted my Canadian passport. I hadn't met any canadians until today. On the beach today I heard a guy say " "hold on I gotta make some change and buy some darts" ...turns out he was from Ottawa Valley. We had a delish...

Apr 26, 2017 - getting started

HELLO! I'm writing from my top bunk (terrible choice in hindsight) at our hostel in a town called Anjuna in Northern Goa. It's just about midnight and it's 28°c. All attempts at not smelling bad and not frizzy hair are pointless haha.. I took beckys advice and quickly set this journal up on my phone. Hope u enjoy :) My trip over was good but as I boarded the final flight with Air India and going on hour 30 or so of traveling I was excited for that part to be done. Aylish flew over a week before me.. she spent some time in Mumbai but was...

Apr 11, 2017 - Goa

In our youth Goa was a place rich, disaffected kids went to tune in, drop out, make love, seek enlightenment. For me California might have been on the other side of the moon, much less Goa. And now we are actually here, long after all the hippies have moved on. Our guide told us that Nigerians and Russians have moved in, bringing prostitution, drug crime and corruption. We saw no evidence of this, but have to assume that she knew what she was talking about. More recently we have heard about spectacular beaches here. I love a beach as much...

Jan 18, 2017 - Amazing markets of Goa

After a rough night I now have a full on cold. I contemplate not going out today but decide that as we have a photo tour I am going to suffer on. And suffer I do so much so that I stop taking pictures and just listen. Our tour doesn’t start well. First they can’t seem to get the gangplank down so we are ½ hour late. Then we can’t find our driver .. another half hour lost. Hard to get mad as he is very nice. It is about 1.5 hour drive till we meet Francisco our guide for the day. What a lovely and fascinating man. Three years ago he made the...

Oct 19, 2016 - Bus from Calangute to Anjuna

10/19 Bon is still not 'with it', i.e. can't seem to get moving in the morning (not much change really, ha), so I went to breakfast alone and met a UK - Indian MD who is visiting for a 50th anniversery of some medical group. We chatted a bit to find out that he has lived and practiced medicine in UK for past 40 years, was now here with his son, Neal (very Brittish, no accent) and I asked their opinion of Brixet...son in favor, dad against. They said this seems to be typical in UK, a pretty even split for and against...interesting. In...

Oct 16, 2016 - Fly to Goa, Calangute

Wiki All About Goa-Click Here 10/17 Made the mistake of ordering a 'Hail to the Queen' sundae dessert last night and I was miserable the whole night, not a wink of sleep! Stomach upset, acid reflux, etc, etc. Early leave from Ajay (7:45 am) to Metro station for airport...took a tuk tuk instead of walk. Good decision for both of us...Bon's leg/hip and my stomach. The Dehli AeroCity stop was the one before main airport for domestic...no problem with shuttle bus to the T-1 terminal and checking in at IndiGo Air (our first time with them -...

India One More Time

Feb 9, 2016 - Go-aaahhhh

After living out of our bags for almost three weeks, it was time to shake out our wrinkly clothes and trade our hikers in for flip flops (if we wore any shoes at all). The coastal state of Goa is a perfect tropical paradise... along with a herd of cows living on the beach, of course. While it's admittedly touristy, with beach huts and restaurants lining almost the entire beach, the town of Agonda is quiet and the beach is sugar-soft and spotless. We decided to "splurge" ($40/night) on a bamboo coco-hut (made from nothing but wood, bamboo,...
