Você fala o português? L'isola di Diu e' una ex colonia portoghese, e pur trovandosi nella punta meridionale della penisola di Saurasthra non fa parte dello stato del Gujarat, ma come le sue cugine Daman e Goa e' amministrata direttamente dal governo centrale di New Delhi. Quando lIndia ha acquistato l'indipendenza dagli inglesi, nel 1948, non e' che i portoghesi abbiano detto -ah ok, va bene, accomodatevi pure adesso ce ne andiamo anche noi...-. Tutt'altro. Jun 7, 2006 - Do the Diu

Ok I'm writing this a bit after because we've been travelling round like maniacs. Lets put my memory to the test. We decided to spend a bit more on accomodation in Diu as we were just going to be chilling out so maybe spending longer around the guesthouse. However this soon went out the window when we heard some of the prices. Shocking stuff! So we went once again to the cheapest we could find. "Jay Shankar" was ok for the price. The bloke who ran it had his bed in the main reception/dining room of the guesthouse and never got out of bed....

Mar 20, 2005 - Diu

We decided to head to the beaches of Diu for our last week. After a hellish journey we finally arrived! We travelled half the way on an overnight train which was certainly an experience. I was woken in the middle of the night by an indian guy trying to grope me. We then travelled the rest of the way on public buses which were packed. It never stopped the driver picking up more people at every village we passed through! You can imagine the stares we got! It is like they have never seem white people before. Feb 28, 2005 - On an island. Bike, desert far, far away.

My bus got to Diu at about 7am but I was awake since 5am. 5am is considered sleeping in for me as I was awoken by a bell everyday at 3:56am exactly for the 10 days of the meditation camp. It was supposed to be 4am, why couldn't his watch be slow? At night the final discourse (English audiotape of the main teacher, which I took in solo as I was the only foreigner there) finished at 9pm. After this we were free to return to our dorm. I am sure there was no night I fell asleep after 9:20pm. All that thinking of how not to think about anything...
