Sep 16, 2017 - At anchor at the Northern edge of Parga, mainland Greece

I was greeted by Nelson this morning, as I went into the salon for breakfast. . Since I was having my latte and omlette, he was looking longingly at the galley for Marina to Bering him his saucer of milk. It was very hot, and sticky when we left the port of Preveza this morning, and re-wound our way between the red and green bouys to get back into the open ocean. Our travels along the West coast of mainland Greece took us about 3-1/2 hours before arriving at Parga. I am also giving you another map, so you can see where we are at closer...

Sep 15, 2017 - Preveza, mainland Greece (day #2)

Good morning to our second day in Preveza. Jacques and Marina had a lot of things to do today, so an extra here is necessary. ##photo=Preveza map (day #2)## . Obviously this is still our map, and we will not change until tomorrow. When going topside, I was surprised to see three sails pread out all ovewr the deck. "Still very wet from the storm, 1 week before." Jacques said, as I learned quizzically at the sail piles. To my utter surprise, I looked off our starboard side, and saw a large, classic Fed. Ship moored sideways against the pier....

Sep 14, 2017 - Preveza, mainland Greece (day #1)

Today we began our journey at 7:00a.m. The earliest for this year, so far. We have spent the last month cruising in the lower part of the Ionian, just North of the Western entrance of the Gulf of Corinth. Some of the places are repeated from previous trips, while other areas have been new and will be added to my "favorites in the Ionian". ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note: Before going further, this is just an FYI for the future voyages of MILENA. The first, and most important Is: Milena will...

Sep 19, 2016 - The lunatics running the asylum

Well it was only a matter of time before we needed to activate our E111 at the local state hospital in the small town of Preveza due to a slip in a small ferry boat and a broken wrist. The captain thought I had had too much to drink when I threw up with shock and doused me with a full bottle of water to 'revive' me. Chances of a compensation claim succeeding in the Greek courts before I die? Nil. So far so run of the mill but without a working knowledge of modern Greek, Preveza's A and E posed a challenge on a Saturday night, a classic case...

Jun 15, 2016 - Monday meeting friends in Greece 6/12/16

6/12/2016 Monday morning arrived and the 8:00 am breakfast call sounded. ( Matt’s belly) It actually could have been the coffee alarm. ( Matt’s nervous system) But why quibble over technicalities. At breakfast Lisa and I worked on what to do with ourselves before meeting Steve and Shelly. We had some time to kill by the time breakfast was over and meeting them at 1:00pm. Breakfast is always variations of the same, always delicious, and the company as well as the pleasant family that were our hosts, made them memorable. ( homemade fig...

Jun 14, 2016 - Sunday Fun Day, 1st real day in Santorini

6/12/2016 Sunday fun day! Lisa and I awaken refreshed and ready to explore our new home for the next week. We head downstairs for a simple but delicious breakfast of COFFEE! eggs, toast, Greek yogurt, fig jam (homemade and unbelievably good!) various fruits and muesli with various additions. After working with the hotel staff we figured out what we wanted to do for travel arrangements. We settled on trying a scooter for the day to see what it was like. Lisa and I pulled the map out and loosely planned a place to see. The Monastery of Thira...

Greece Trip 2016

Jun 13, 2016 - June 10th-11th Trip and Arrival

Trip journal, Greece 2016 6/10/2016 Fun and games began bright and early Friday morning of the tenth. As usual Matty was his intensely motivated “let's get there!” self. We left for Boston with Devon driving at 6:30, Starbucks in hand. The drive was uneventful and we dealt with 1 hour LESS traffic than anticipated considering doing Boston morning commute time. Our flight was for 12:15 to Toronto and we were checked in and idling around the terminal from 8:30 on. 𯘣 OK, so maybe Matty might work on his tendency to want to be early for...

Greece Trip 2016

May 14, 2015 - Day 5 - Ormos Fanari

Today we headed north for approx 20 miles to the bay of Fanari, just south of Parga. A secluded bay and we were the only boat there! Still early in the season. Beautiful clear water and we all went in for a dip. The Akheron River originates up the mountains and empties into the bay. With snow still being on the mountains, that water was cold. Very invigorating to say the least! We took the dinghy up the Akheron river and around the caves on the peninsula to explore. We found a lovely taverna by the river for a fresh grilled fish dinner and...

May 12, 2015 - Day 4 : Preveza Greece

After the storm yesterday, the day started with bright blue skies and we headed off for a morning swim at Anti Paxos. Clear blue waters and no snorkel needed! Anti Paxos is relatively uninhabited and the smaller island to Paxos. From Anti Paxos we headed further down the Greek coast 20 miles to Preveza. After motoring for a while, the wind came up and we had a lovely sail. The boat handles very well and was a joy to sail. In order to get into Prevaza, there is a channel to navigate with shallow waters either side. As we went up the...

Jul 9, 2013 - Beachtime in NW Greece

Seaside Greece 26th June to 5th July I did say at the end of my last entry that we were intending to just enjoy the sun and company during our seaside time in Greece. That we have done in abundance. Sue had picked out a suitable site south of Igoumenitsa near the small town of Parga. Licknos is the name of the bay and of the campsite and it has been delightful – see the pictures. It really does it tick all the boxes for a relaxing an enjoyable time: wonderful location in a beautiful bay, protected and very clear blue water, sandy beach,...

Apr 30, 2011 - >> Start 2011: Preveza
