Sep 18, 2017 - Santorini

We're spending the day in Santorini, a lovely Greek island that I have seen so many photos of. I have to insert here that this particular part of the review is extremely difficult…that’s because Santorini, for the most part, is one giant photo-op. It’s a photographer’s dream…and I have about 1,000 photos (well maybe not that many), so I had to pick and choose. Sigh. The sacrifices one must make…I hope I’ve picked some of the good ones, but I’ll let you be the judge. We meet our usual crew and then head off together so we are all on the same...

Oct 10, 2015 - Santorini

Thursday, October 8 After another excellent hotel breakfast, we explored Naxos Town a bit more in the morning before checking out at noon to take a ferry our next stop, Santorini. The ferry was the Blue Star Delos, which is the fleet's newest ship and is an amazing boat. Everything is modern and classy, with numerous lounges and floor to ceiling windows for watching the water and islands slip by. We wanted to take this slow ferry rather than a faster ferry so that we could experience the sheer thrill of approaching Santorini, and the sunken...

May 28, 2014 - Sunlight Suites

Well, we are settled into our home for the next 8 days, Sunlight Suites. It's 6 AM , so no pictures for awhile. Landed at 11:30 AM, yesterday, picked up our car. Forgot to pick up an international data plan, so no GPS. "No problem" says Hertz, "just turn left out of the airport, right in Thira, & follow the signs to Oia". Did that, but ended up on a wrong road. It got us to Oia but in about one hour rather than 30 minutes. The town was packed with tourists who our cruise ship passengers. Finally found our villa at about 1PM. I'll get...

Sep 9, 2012 - Karterados, moving up North

I'm up, but semi-struggling and it's near 830am. I was told when I chatted with the hotel folks that I would get a ride to the bus stop in Karterados around 9am. That was my motivation. Get up, Get Out and Get moving. If I can't check in, at least I can drop them off and vamoose. No time wasting, straight to trekking or whatever may be on tap at that point in time. Mister PotLuck and I head towards reception to check out then my ride. Grandma is doing the books, give her the key and start to walkout. Of course after some light banter. She...

SANTORINI: 2 ½ hr Ferry from Crete to Santorini. It was a roller coaster ride on the FastCat!! People were being sick all over the place. One poor fellow took the men’s bathroom hostage for most of the ride. Just hearing people being sick almost made you want to throw up too….join the crowd! However, we all held it together!!! Santorina, known for its white & blue, has changed in population and décor since Sharen was here in 1996. Pastel colours have been introduced. It is still pretty but in a very different way. We rented a car and had a...

Dec 5, 2010 - Oia

@@@@@@@ Background The village of Oia (pronounced ee-ah) sits at the northwestern-most tip of Santorini. Oia was almost completely destroyed during the devastating earthquake that struck the island in 1956, killing scores of peoples and leveling most of the buildings. The rebuilding of the village is a true testament to the tenacity of the residents and today Oia is the most popular destination on Santorini during the summer months. There are still pockets of rubble remaining from the time of the earthquake but the restoration and new...
