Nov 19, 2010 - Goodbye Greece

Not too much to add about leaving Greece really. Drove from Corinth to Patra along a coast road which was much prettier than expected, arriving in plenty of time for the ferry. Patra was a bit of a nighmare, just like before very busy and with lots of people hanging around outside the ferry terminal looking for a lorry they could jump in the back of. It was quite un-nerving, there are hundreds of people just hanging on the barbed wire fences. We were driving down the road and this rush of about 20 guys came running up to this lorry stopped...

Oct 29, 2010 - Penelope Who?

We arrived in Patra refreshed, revived and ready to go. Considering the news over the past few months, we were half expecting some trouble when we got to Greece, but I'm happy to report there was no rioting or civil unrest of any kind. The driver had some trouble with his car jack and I think if I hadn't stepped in to work it out I may still have been there. It was a good thing I set out early, a pleasant 3:30 in the morning as we lost the best part of an hour. As it happened the flight was virtually empty so I could...

Jun 25, 2007 - Patras

We got to Patra from Athens after 4 hours, should have been a 3 hour ride! The heat probably slowed the train down! While there we had no idea where we were going to sleep. We tried to find a hostel that is in our book, but ended walking for a KM in the wrong direction. Once we finally got ourselves coordinated properly we found the hostel. The hostel was called Patra Youth Hostel! CHEAP and not that great of a place. But it was ok because we had a shower and a bed. We walked around the area after we were settled and found a little pasta...
