Dec 13, 2013 - Lake Dudu

I know the name of this place doesn't sound very good and you are right. Lake Dudu is two large freshwater "lakes" and a cavern lake. One has a zip line, ( I didn't partake) while the cavern lake has a wading area in a cave like setting. According to the attendants, the two lakes are connected by an underground channel. We spent about 2 hours and most were ready to leave. The other unusual thing about Lake Dudu was the menagerie of animals. The were 4 or 5 ostriches, an American turkey, lots of chickens, and some other unrecognizable water...

Dec 12, 2013 - Day at the Beach

We headed to Playa Grande for some sun bathing and swimming. The Playa is a public beach that costs about $3 to get on the beach. The place was swarming with "licensed" attendants and vendors. The attendants rented us beach chairs and "boogie" boards, and then took our drink orders. The pina colada's came with and without rum. It was hard to tell the difference. We wound up paying $5/drink with or without. Everybody had a good time frolicking in the surf and nobody got too sunburned.

Dec 11, 2013 - Giddy up

After the wedding on Monday and the birth of Finn on Tuesday, I had a hard time getting back to the journal, but I didn't stop taking pictures. With that said, I'm going to post pictures from the last 3 days of our stay on the Dominican Republic and the trip home with minimal comments. Thursday the group went horseback riding. Everybody went except the elderly (Sue & I) and the infirmed (Jared and Shane's friend Ray). I walked with the group to the place where they picked up the horses and watched the show as everybody mounted up. The...

Dec 10, 2013 - Blessed December

Our December is truly a blessed month. We are here in the Dominican Republic to celebrate the Wedding of Shane to Jessica. After months of planning, the event went off without a hitch yesterday in an oceanfront grotto at Sunrise Villa. My hat is off to Shane and Jess for all of the hard work and planning over the last 6 or 8 months that went into the event. They were even smart enough to plan it so we missed one of the worst December winter storms for Delaware. The wedding was late in the afternoon and was immediately followed by the dinner...

Dec 8, 2013 - In the Tropics

Saturday was sunny and cool and the weather that has affected the Midwest didn’t affect our Departure from Newark Liberty International Airport. Everybody arrived at the airport on time and after a little confusion, we were able to check our bags and make our way through the dreaded TSA security checkpoint. I was lucky for some reason and got a TSA pre-approval and was able to go through with out taking off my shoes or my jacket. What a disappointment, I had worn socks just for the occasion. The plane took off on time and the flight to...
