May 3, 2008 - Cruise - Puntarenas and Sea Day

We arrived in Puntarenes at 7 am on May 2. We took a Riverboat Cruise here and saw some wonderful "critters"! At the end of the tour, we were served fresh pineapple and watermelon, water or some of the local beer which was very tasty. There were the usual handicrafts to look through. Our tour guide told us that they have three classes of people which consist of poor, middle and high. The poor get a minimum wage of $500 per month, the middle get $800 to $1500 per month and the high they don't know what they make. Education is mandatory for...

Feb 29, 2008 - Puntarenas

Arrived after 12 hours of riding, we went from Ocean Highway to Rainforest, to cloud forest, through to some near freezing altitude and back down to population. Unfortunately we hit San Jose at rush hour and fought through traffic left, right, center, and over curbs. Had garlic shrimp, and some Pilsen beer.

Jan 31, 2008 - Leaving Liberia In the Dust

Today was a bus travel day. I departed Liberia at 11:30 AM, changed buses in port city of Puntarenas, then had an hour wait in between. I saw an incredible red sunset from the bus and arrived Jaco (accent on the second syllable) at 7 PM. After I got a $36 room I went to supermercado for beers and a banana and then to Taco Bar for a delicious teriyaki chicken salad and gigantic iced tea for $10.20 at outdoor Taco Bar. Their t-shirt has skeleton of a fish on it and says "Killed Fish Tacos." I met some kids from The School of the World...

Sep 26, 2007 - Costa Rica

Costa Rica is as green as the other central american countries and has it's share of hills (in Honduras and Nicaragua we seemed to be travelling around, over or through hills continually) but given the US influence it appears far more complete (ordered if you will). Not too many photos but I think most have seen a beach before. Anyway, I took a few days out from the trip for a number of reasons. The others have gone off to live in the forest for a while but I went to Puntarenas. I met some people from El Salvador and had a great time....
