We left Liberia this morning and headed west to the beaches of the Nicoya Peninsula. The guide book we purchased in Nicaragua shows dozens of beaches in this area. There had to be something that matched our pocketbook and our preference to stay away from large resort areas. The countryside is beautiful. There are many park-like ranches in this area with lush hay growing and plenty of cattle. This is Costa Rican cowboy country according to the guide. Feb 9, 2008 - Managua to Playas del Tamarindo, Costa Rica

Feb 9 Managua to Playas del Tamarindo, Costa Rica. 190 miles. 2486 miles from McAllen. 3535 miles from home. About four hours at the border, less than expected so we got to Tamarindo by 5PM. Roads were good, at least one volcano in view all day. Nice ride until we got almost to the hotel. Construction. No real road, just mud and gravel with a two foot wet gravel berm in construction at the entrance. Rick stopped abruptly as he turned in, I had to stop on the berm and dropped my bike. No damage to the bike or me, just my ego. Watched the sun...
