Mar 13, 2010 - Sunset in Carrillo!

Today we started out with breakfast on the deck. Coconuts and bananas with water. We had plans to meet Maurice for brunch at 1pm. So we headed out to Le Perls rest 1 km north of town. Here we all had fish with black beans, rice and some purple veg we thought could be cactus. Cost 5 bucks per plate. We all had fruit juice with water about 1.25 per cup. On the way back there was a small accident between a motorcycle and a truck. I checked the guy on the bike out and someone called 911. No ambulance came. I got 2 bags of ice form the local...

Mar 11, 2010 - Music , Monkeys And Tico Town.

Yesterday was so hot that we both laid down at 3pm and had a 45 min nap. Got up grabbed a beer and jumped in the pool. Next we walked up the beach and turned off down a dirt road just about 1 km out of town. Here we found the famous Pablito's bar. They sell the most amount of beer in the whole area. Beer cost 2 bucks but every beer comes with a dish of rice, beans and some meat. They also have a very, very hot sauce that you can put on your rice. I had a spoon full and quickly needed one more beer. Rox played it smart and just dipped her...

Mar 10, 2010 - Hot & Getting Hotter!!!

Yesterday was 38 degrees on the record. But in the sun it was hotter for sure. If you have your oven on 450 then open the door and stand back 2 feet you will know what the warm Costa Rican sun feels like. The Tico Lodge pool is in the shade and quite cool, it is and oasis that we enjoy! Squirrels and iguana´s also share the shade with us and keep a very close eye on us! Time for walking is after 4 pm. We took a walk with our feet in the water along the beach to keep cool. The water temp is warmer than your skin. somes feel very hot on the...

Mar 9, 2010 - Samara Or Heaven.

Breakfast in Samara Beach fells like heaven.I leave the Tico lodge and pass a tree full of birds. They sound like the best music from every bird that you have ever heard. I walk up to the Sheriff's Rustic Rest and see a squirrel eating a seed in a tree above. I sit down to soft Costa Rican music. Across the road a squirrel makes a heroic dash for the closest palm tree. A beautiful woman in a while dress walks by pushing her bike on the sand. A large yellow butterfly floats by behind her. I glance across the sand to see a large pelican glide...

Mar 7, 2010 - Sun&Fun!

Yesterday we just hung out around the beach and chatted up friends around town. Rox went shopping and I got a new sun hat. A hat is a must down here in the mid day heat. It's so cool to have super warm bomby nights with hot wind. It never gets cold at all. Its different than Belize and Maui and Mexico. There is no coat needed ever. Can not wear a shirt only at night for bug protection. Today we saw and got some good video of a howler monkey live over the pool at the Tico Lodge. They are so cool, they swing and fool around in the trees....

Mar 6, 2010 - Along Samara Beach.

Today I forgot how hot it can be here during the afternoon heat. It seem I needed a little reminder. I talked Rox into a short walk to the south end of the beach around 2pm. I was thinking it would take 15 min with a break at the end at a local hotel bar and pool. OPs. It was 25 min at 104 degree heat. All I could do was crawl into the hotel bar. Then we were told they had new rules. No beer unless you had a 35 dolar meal. What the %$%&. Ok I said can I grab a shower on the way out and they said no! Ahhh! Good thing Rox had a shower before...

Yesterday Rox said she wants to put me on a budget. Hmmm Well just to get into the the budget feel we bought some , avacodo´s, fresh bread, cukes, tomatoes and make our own sandwiches. Cost us about 2 bucks to eat. Saved on lunch. Late that night we walked the beach and got some great sunsets pics. Killed the budget a bit as our new friend Kate came home and said she was hungry and wanted to go out and spit a pizza. so away we went and had a few beer as well. Good times. Mar 2, 2010 - Working Out In The Sun!

Today just shopped an putted about town. Its major hot and sunburn cream is needed the mometo that you awake. Later in the day I figured it would be a good time to rent a boogie board (Cost 2 bucks per hour). Well I just gave it all I had. The waves were good and I must have done 500 leg lifts pushing the board out to the surf. There were some 14 year old boys surfing and I was at least keeping up with them and passing them too! This is not how a 48 year old man should act. Yup, I was grabbing for the tylenal. So later that night Rox say to...

Mar 1, 2010 - Night Of The B.B.Q !

Today we had breakfast at the beach. Very cool to eat right infront of the surf. Had rice ,beans and plantain bananas cooked in cinnamon and a bit of sugar. Cost about 5 buck. Food has gone up double since we were here in 2006. A beer was 1 buck now its 2. So what. Food 3 bucks now 5 or 6 bucks for the basic rice and beans with fish. Price to stay is very good so it still is a very good deal over all. Around 4 pm we loaded up and headed to Mel Gibson's private beach... well I am sure he has a few. Took about 10 min on good dirt road and 10...

Yesterday we had a great time on my B Day! Met our new neighbour Kate. She is from England and has done a lot of word travelling. She is in Samara to take Spanish at the local school. Also met a couple that want to live in Costa Rica from B.C. Mike and his wife. All joined in for my B Day dinner. After dinner Rox & Me and Kate tripped over to the local beach bar under almost a full moon to have a few dances and one more drink before hitting the pillow. Big news is today we are off to Mel Gibson´s private beach to have a beach B.B.Q under...
