May 22, 2006 - Tour to Le Shan

Today we drove to LeShan. We drove past miles and miles of rice paddies. The workers were standing in the water and were bent over planting the rice. What a back breaking job. The Chinese harvest two crops of rice per year. Corn, tea, lotus flowers were also growing as well as quite a few fish farms. We went to see the Giant Buddha, the largest sitting Buddha in the world. He is carved out of a mountain, took 90 years to build, is 1200 years old and is 71 meters tall. We took a boat out on a river where we could get a good look at him. We...
