Aug 9, 2013 - WOTW

China diary. Aug 9 Window of the World. Amusement park is like Epcot internationalism but like Legoland for miniaturization. Saw no westerners at all. All Asian. Appeared to be mostly Chinese. WOTW is a typical theme park --but with a twist. Sno-cones in flavors of passion fruit, mango, guava, grass jelly and...strawberry. The most popular ride was called "the Alps". There you could ice skate, slide down a fake ice hill on an inner tube or snow board on a bunny hill. Everyone was quite excited about it. The English pubs drew an audience...

China 2013

Apr 19, 2012 - a rainy day

Well it was a rainy day…nice excuse to stay in and watch the lightning, hear the rain and listen for the thunder, sounds like the same weather ya’ll were having in the bay area. I took these pictures from the window of our apartment, imagine that rain looking at these photo’s. Most of them came out pretty blurry but one thing is clear…these people are tenacious!

Apr 18, 2012 - My view of the Wet Market in Shenzhen, China.....

Hey, Lauren here, just wanted to describe, in further detail, what the fish or wet market was like... When you walk in the front entrance the smell is horrifying, a mixture of death, decay, and polluted sea water. (This was made by the all hot and humid weather we had been having) It made me so nauseous I wanted to turn back go home and puke, then smell the strongest perfume I could find for a few hours and plunge my head in a tub of ice cold water for the rest of the day. Oddly enough, I took four or five more steps and it felt like I had...

Jul 3, 2008 - Shenzhen, China

Shenzhen, China -- 10 million people and a whole lot of high-density living quarters. Arrival was a breeze, we walked out of the airport and got straight on a bus to our hotel in the Luohu district. After settling in, we headed out for our first experience with a Chinese train station. It was Clay's goal to get comfortable with the Chinese train system and figure out how to get to Hong Kong and Xi'an. With help from a half dozen random folks, we were finally escorted to the correct ticket office. We thought we were home-free when we saw the...

Mar 7, 2008 - China - Shenzhen

Friday 7th March I don't know why it happens. But we seem to be really good at leaving things until the last minute. And, when you have to be on connecting trains, ferries and planes within the next few hours, you can't afford to be late. A taxi took us to the MTR station, where we hopped onto the subway. We switched onto another train, on another line, to take us one more stop. Sometimes I feel that we spend more time underground here in Hong Kong than on the streets! Their subway system is great but they have an elaborate passage system...
