May 17, 2017 - Trois-Rivières - Mont-Laurier

Jul 30, 2016 - July 30 - Trois Rivieres

Saturday, July 30 – Trois Rivieres We started out for Trois Rivieres on a freeway, but decided to turn off to the Chemin Du Roy (Highway of the King), which is the original route from Quebec City to Montreal. It follows the St. Lawrence through many little villages, so as you might imagine, it is slower but scenic and many of the buildings are very picturesque. There are many farms laid out in narrow strips leading back from the river, the system adopted in New France to ensure that each farmer had access to the river, which was the main...

Warm night last night. Didn't head out until noon , lazy butts!!!! Brutal winds when we got back into Quebec and STINK whew that wind riled something up. Thought about going into Quebec City gor a couple of days but the campground in town with the shuttle was closed and the weather forecast wasn't great. On our way to Trois rivieres it poured and is still coming down so we're in a hotel. On to Lauras tomorrow via Gatineau. No pics today

Aug 6, 2013 - Montréal (QC) to Trois Rivières (QC)

The Hotel le Dauphin served breakfast starting at 6:00 am, so the whole group assembled at that time in the breakfast room. By 6:30 am most of us were ready to leave, so we headed off as a group. We went through the centre of Montreal for about 4 km, then re-joined Highway 138 (part of the Route Verte) going East. The cycling conditions through the day continued to be excellent: dedicated bike paths, well marked bike lanes, or shared roads and sunny weather. After about 30 km we crossed a bridge off the Montreal island and continued along...

Jul 12, 2013 - Hiking at camp

Friday- We stayed around the campground today but it was not a boring day! We hiked up the mountain that is part of the campground. The owners maintain the trails and they are well marked. All of us, including Terra, enjoyed the hike. Upon return to camp, there was happy hour followed by a "hot dog party". We celebrated a successful tour of Quebec and cannot believe it went by so quickly. We look forward to hosting Roger and Roli in the USA soon!

Trek in Quebec

Jul 11, 2013 - Trois Rivieres

Thursday - We visited the city of Trois-Rivieres today. It is the birthplace of Roger and Roli and we certainly got the "insiders" tour of the city.. First stop was the shrine, Our Lady of the Cape. As you can tell by the photos, we were very impressed by the church and grounds. This is a very popular pilgrimage site and there is even a camping area, right along the St. Lawrence River. Camping is without hookups and is by donation only, in a sealed envelope. What a gorgeous place to park! There are also extensive grounds with statuary and...

Trek in Quebec

Aug 13, 2012 - Trois Rivieres

Day Fifty Four – Aug 13 Trois-Rivieres 136k The Keystone Kop antics of the previous couple of days would continue into today. Today was Monday. It was garbage day. The garbage bins were rolled out to the edge of the highway. In one case the home owner rolled the bins onto the marked bicycle path. Maybe he did it on purpose. His time will come. Rosie was cycling the pathway and looking at her map. She hit a bin at speed. As she was flying through the air with the greatest of ease she thought that her ride across Canada was over. She landed...

Checking the ditches

Sep 15, 2011 - Roberval and Trois Rivières

This is a nice little city. My hotel was right on Lac St Jean, and had a really nice view. I had been hiking earlier in Dolbeau, so I wasn’t much in the mood to do a tonne of trekking, but I did go for a little walk in the process of finding a place to eat. Afterwards I head to the bar that’s in my hotel and meet a nice bartender and chat for a bit, despite her difficulty understanding my accent. The next day I head to the school and do the show. They have a very sophisiticated auditorium, so I basically have to do little-to-no-work in...

My Year on the Road

Aug 15, 2011 - Mont St-Hilaire - Trois-Rivieres

August 15 – Day 54 Mount St. Hillaire to Trois-Rivieres K’s 142.3k Time 5h 56m Average speed: 23.92k/H T to d 5793 A great ride today on a very nice bike friendly route! We again rode with Jane and Fred and Terri proved to have gotten pretty comfortable with riding in a paced line. This will be a good thing if we face any more head wind days which we probably will. We had a nice coffee stop at about 40k’s but were too early there for any food. So we rode on and came to an old country general store. Long story short but this had been a...

Jun 6, 2011 - Trois Rivieres to Quebec City

We reluctantly leave my good friend Jean's house... but the trip must continue. Today will probably be the shortest commute... we are going only about 80 miles to St Nicolas on the south shore of the St Lawrence river across from Quebec. We are going to camp at Bernieres Camping, a large and very well organized camping located next to three major RV dealers. WE get there around 4pm and decide to go for a quick tour of Quebec City. The weather is very nice. We take Boulevard Champlain to get to the old town quickly. We spend a few hours in...

May 28, 2011 - 10 days in Trois Rivieres, QC

Back to my roots Here we are going to be parked at one of my best friends house in Port St Francois on the South shore of the St Lawrence river. I take this opportunity to get some R&R and get reacquainted with by birth city. First thing we do upon arrival is to go to dinner at the Greek restaurant in Pointe du Lac for the best pizza in the world: very thick crust, tons of pepperoni and cheese, cheese and some more cheese. During the next ten days, my friend Jean helps me with a few problems I have with the RV, we share meals in his house...
